Chapter 1- It's Megs' Birthday!
Megara (or Meg as she likes to be called) awoke with a huge smile on her face. Today was her 18th birthday. Meaning that she could finally become independent and go out into the real to do whatever she wished. The first thing on her agenda though, was to head to the kitchen to join her family for breakfast. Not that her family really had much of a kitchen or mucuh of breakfast because they were very poor. Within her family was; her mother Jane, her younger sister Harriet and her older sister Charlotte who was already 20 and hadn't left home yet. Meg was currently working in town at a bakery. The money she earnt, she was saving up to get her own house and have a great 18th birthday celebration. Unfortunately she had to spend some to pay for the rent as it was overdue and her family would have been kicked out because her mother couldn't get the money in time. If you are wondering about Meg's father, he left. He became a rich and wealthy man- after leaving his wife for someone half his age. Meg was only 12 when he left and it upset her greatly. Now no one speaks of him but secretly Meg wants to see him again, only to see what he has been up to and maybe persuade him to help the family out but it was pretty unlikely he would.
"Goodmorning birthday girl!" Jane said, cutting up some bread to go with the porridge that was on the small wooden table.
"Goodmorning everyone" Meg smiled.
"I have a present for you, I made it myself" Charlotte grinned, handing her younger sibling a brown box tied with a red ribbon.
"Thank you, but you really didn't have to Charlotte" Meg replied, astounded as to what the present might be.
Meg was always a bit envious of her sisters. Charlotte was a pretty little blonde with blue eyes, all the men loved her. Harriet, even though she was 13 was also beautiful, she was like a younger version of Charlotte but shorter and with the cute innocence about her that all children have. Meg on the other was brown haired and her hair was definently not thin like her sisters, it was long and hard to manage, not to mention thick, she was thin and also not very positive at times. Meg is basically a downer. But that doesn't bother her, sometimes she feels good when telling other people whether they're right or wrong.
When Meg untied the box, a beautiful purple flowing dress came out. It was gorgeous. It matched her golden sandals and flowed perfectly along her hips when she put it on.
"You look beautiful Meg" Jane said almost crying.
"Thanks mother" Meg was very happy at her new dress, this was perfect so that she could actually look decent when working and may even get an acceptable house, she looked rich.
So it was about time for Meg to go house hunting. She walked out the door, very proud of her new dress and couldn't wait to show it off to people in town, it was time to become independent and a new look was the perfect touch.
Meg continued walking with a big smile on her face but her head was down, looking at the ground -she always did that because of her shyness which was soon to be overcome once she left home- she didn't notice that someone was walking towards her, also looking at the ground. 'Bang!' The ran into each other and were both knocked to the ground in shock.
