Hey guys! Here's a (short) drabble that popped into my head one day while looking over character profiles for Danny Phantom. (Yeah, I'm a major Phan!)
Danny/Sam, because they are awesome!! It's fluffy, but I think it works. :)
Danny Phantom and characters belong to Nick and Butch Hartman (we love you for this show, Butch!!)
What was it about techno music that Sam loved so much?
Maybe it was the beat. The drums could be hard one second and then soft the next, pounding out a hardcore rhythm and then stopping suddenly. Sort of like her. The way she could be snarling most of the time and gentle when it was needed.
Or maybe it was the way the instruments sounded: all muted but clear at the same time. It was so much fun to listen to. It combined with the fast and slow beats to create something really cool.
Or it could have been the melody of the songs. The notes could make you feel such strong emotions: despair, anger, even peacefulness, something that was not often associated with that specific type of music.
'I think it's all of it put together,' Sam thought finally, turning up her stereo. The way the beat, melody, and electronic synths combined gave the music a sort of spinning feel, like something was moving around her. It made her feel dizzy, but in the best way possible.
'Like Danny.'
Whoa. Where had that thought come from? She turned down her Electroclash CD and frowned down at the paper she was supposed to be writing for school. 'Okay. How the heck is Danny related to the music I listen to?' she asked herself.
'Think about it,' some voice whispered in her head; the voice that only came out to teach her some annoying lesson.
'Fine,' she thought, as close to a mental sigh as was possible.
So what did her best friend and her music have in common? They were both intense and calm, for one thing. Danny was confidant and cool when he was Danny Phantom. But as Danny Fenton, he was just a normal, most times awkward, teenager.
He was different. An individual. And he didn't care about fitting in, even in his human mode--not anymore, at least. And her music was different; that was why people liked it.
Both things made her feel something special. The music made her feel ready for a party, made her feel empowered. Danny...made her feel safe. Empowered as well, but in a different way. Like he'd always be by her side and that together, they could do anything.
'Amazing what one little song can make you feel,' she thought, shaking her head and turning up her music again, trying to somehow make the hot feeling in her cheeks disappear. Well, at least she'd finally figured it out.
She loved techno music.
And she loved Danny. And now whenever she listened to her music, she'd think of him.
Not that that was a bad thing.
Electroclash, by the way, is the name of a band in the show. You can see a poster of them on Sam's wall. ;)
I realize Sam's always had a crush on Danny, but I guess you could say this is her realizing the full extent of it. :)
R & R, please!
