The only home Koala had truly known was with the Revolutionary army, with Dragon and those who followed him. She was brought up by some of, what she thought were the best people to exist in this world. There were some she was unsure of, well...mostly a purple haired man named Ivankov. He seemed harmless to the small girl, most of the time, but then other times, she wasn't quite as sure. Everyone in their company was dangerous, and that was something she tried to keep in mind when becoming too comfortable.
Over time, the group gained another child. He was small, like her, blond, and burned badly. When Dragon brought him to their base, Koala had her own curiosities, like anyone else. She made a point of making short trips to the infirmary between tasks and chores throughout the day. Especially, once the boy regained consciousness. The small redhead grew more curious as she got to know the boy a bit. Of course, there was only so much she could learn from a boy who did not even remember where he came from, but she learned the way his mind worked, the way he puffed his cheeks when he got frustrated. She memorized the shapes of his face, the shading of the burn scar that surrounded his eye.
Why was she so interested in this boy? She found herself asking that question almost daily as the two trained and grew together. Through time, though, she began to notice him looking at her the exact same way she looked at him. When she walked in the room, Sabo's eyes lit up in a way she only saw throughout his training. It was the look of achievement. Why, though, was it aimed at her? Was she an achievement? She began to think of it as something she had missed. Perhaps by the time she had walked in, something spectacular had happened, and that was to blame for the look on his face. After a few times of that happening, and him not finding anything to brag about, though, she began to suspect that it was something entirely different.
The two trained together every day, since they were the only two of their age. Therefore, it was easy enough for Koala to confront the boy about the looks he had been giving her. With a bright red face, from a mixture of embarrassment and exhaustion, she made her way to an equally tired out Sabo. She lowered herself to sit next to him, a hand shifting to rest on his arm. Just being that close, she felt as if she had lit a fire right in front of the two of them. The temperature increased significantly, and she had no explanation for the feeling. She knew she needed to ask him about this, and she had no time to chicken out, but that seemed to be exactly what she was doing. She pulled her hand away, her eyes going wide when it was caught and brought right back to the position it had been in previously. On his arm.
She stared at her hand and his arm for some time, letting herself zone out. What brought her back to reality was the voice which accompanied that arm under her hand. "Is something wrong, Koala?" A smooth voice pulled her from that little place she had retreated to within her mind. She tilted her heads up, her lips parting as if she were going to speak, but nothing came out. His face was very close to hers. That was when Koala knew what was actually wrong. She stammered lightly, tugging her hand away, and stood from that spot. "I'm sorry, but I promised to meet Hack right after training." She spoke quickly, making her way away from the boy. Was she going to meet with Hack? Most definitely, she was. However, it had nothing to do with training. The girl was more confused than she had been in her life, and she needed some way to figure herself out.
