The Doctor shuffled into the kitchen, his clothes wrinkled and his hair tussled.
He looked up and smiled as he saw her sitting at the table, her dispostition bright and cheery, "Hello." She said as thier eyes met.
"Hi." He said tiredly and went to the stove where the kettle sat, "Tea?" He asked her as he turned the tap on.
Donna nodded, "Yes, please."
He set the filled kettle back onto the burner and set the knob to start the water boiling, he sat down across from her.
She leaned over and took his hand, "Have you slept at all?"
He shook his head, "You know I don't sleep, except with you."
Her cheeks reddened as she ducked her head briefly, "You know you should sleep, it isn't good for you. And don't give me that 'It's my biology with being a Time Lord' nonsense, and when was the last time you ate anything?"
The Doctor gave her a pointed look, "So what are you now my..."
"You say 'mother' and I'm going to give you such a slap, your eyes will spin for a week." She said quickly causing him to smirk and run his hand through his hair.
"I was going to say...something else."
Donna rolled her eyes, "Sure you were."
They shared a brief bit of silence before her hand squeezed his fingers tightly.
"What's up?" He asked.
"I was serious when I asked you when the last time you ate was." Her blue eyes shone brightly trying to see past his defences that he had built up.
"I still have nightmares." He whispered his voice quivering just the slightest bit.
Her thumb stroked along the backside of his hand, "I thought you said you didn't sleep." There was a soft smile of her face, but it wasn't a sarcastic one.
The doctor lifted her hand and turned it over, kissing her palm twice. "I said except with you."
Donna nodded, "I see."
He just nodded and advoided her eyes.
Releasing her hand from his she brought it up and caressed his cheek, "I'm sorry. I wish that I didn't cause you this much trouble and heartache."
His hand came up and covered hers, "You're worth it."
"You better say that."
They laughed together as their hands untangled from each other and came to rest on thier side of the table.
His brown eyes lifted and gazed at her face, "I love you."
Donna shook her head, "I know, I love you too."
"Can you stay?"
She shook her head again, "No, your tea's ready."
He turned his head at the sound of the whistle coming from behind him, and he gave her one last glance before getting up to make his drink.
Opening the cupboard he took his mug down and then her's, holding the blue cup in his hand he turned towards her, "Are you sure you don't want a..." He trailed off as he found himself staring at an empty space, her chair unoccupied as it had been for months.
Sighing he placed her cup back onto the shelf and closed the door slowly.
Filling his mug with the hot water, he grabbed a tea bag and went back to the table, sitting back in his seat.
His eyes drifted forward and looked at the spot where she use to sit, "I miss you." He whispered as he placed the bag into the water and began to dunk it up and down as his mind went back to her.
