The sun mercilessly beet down on the hot dessert floor, and on Nanaki's back. While the
heat would have been an annoyance to a human Nanaki enjoyed it. He seemed to get his
energy from it. Nanaki not only noticed this, but also as he grew older his body started to
generate its own heat. His fur even emitted a dim glow. His grandfather had often told
him that his species was closely tied to the element of fire. But Nanaki had never relized
how much so.
Nanaki stopped walking and stood in place for a moment. He felt something
strange, something wrong. He raised his muzzle to the sky and sniffed at the air. A slight
breeze whipped his mane across his face. He felt something tickle his back. Something
like a small beating. Startled he spun around. In front of him was a small butterfly. It
flapped its small wings furiously as it flew in mad circles. Nanaki raised it paw into the
air hopping that the butterfly might land. It circled around him a few times and then
moved in closer to his paw. It landed on him and sat still. Slowly Nanaki moved his paw
closer to his face so that he might get a better look. he was wondering what it was doing
in the middle of the dessert.
suddenly a scream cut through the sky like a knife. The butterfly fell from
Nanaki's paw and hit the ground. As the butterfly lie there the sky turned black and
clouds filled the heavens. Shrieks and screams filled Nanaki's ears. The sky was alive
with the sound of a hundred banshees. The wailing grew louder and more and more
unbearable. The ground shook causing Nanaki's legs to give way under his weight. He
fell to the ground striking his head on a stone. The shrieking grew louder and louder.
Nanaki was awoken by loud shouts and heavy foot steps. All of Cosmo Canion
was alive with noise. Nanaki shook himself and rose onto his legs. He found himself at
the Cosmo candle. People were running all over the place looking for a cause to all the
commotion. Nanaki took in a deep breath and let out a massive roar that rose over all the
noise and filled the canion. Soon every one fell silent. The shreeking started again,
causing every one to look at Bugin's home. The planet was in pain.
