Shattering Ice

A/N: I've always wanted to write an all-dialogue fic. It's an EllieJimmy. You can kind of guess who starts first. It's a little maybe a lot, depending your view OOC, and I don't give much background information. I wanted to cut this short. So, make it up yourself or read between the lines. Don't ask what happened or what's been going on with Ellie and Jimmy prior. Just go with it! Reviews are appreciated. )

"You can't ignore this, El."

"Ignore what?"

"Us."

"There's never been an 'us', Brookes."

"There could be."

"You and I are not compatible. We're not supposed to be an 'us'."

"Since when did you follow the rules, Nash? Dare to be different."

"Shut up."

"Only if you stop snapping those rubber bands."

"Safer than a kitchen a knife."

"Stop it."

"Stop what?"

"Those jokes. They're not funny."

"You should know by now, I'm not a funny girl. I'm completely numb. I'm ice."

"You're not numb."

"I am."

"How can you be numb?"

"I'm robotic. I don't feel emotion, unless there's a razor to my wrist."

"Now you're just being morbid and dramatic."

"I am not. It's all true. I'm one fucked up kid. Why do you even bother?"

"You're not fucked up."

"Stop telling me what I am and what I'm not. Especially when you're wrong."

"Whatever you say, Nash."

"Mmhmm."

"So, what do we do? Just go on with our lives?"

"We were drunk off our asses, Brookes. It wasn't like we knew what we were doing."

"You can't exactly mistake me for Sean, Ellie."

"Well, you couldn't mistake me for Hazel, either."

"There was something there, Ellie. You felt it. You aren't numb."

"That's exactly why we can't be an 'us.'"

"That makes no sense. Clarification is appreciated."

"If I'm not numb to you—to this—than I will get hurt again. You will not break me, Brookes."

"I don't want to break you, Ellie. I want to put you back together."

"So, what? You're the glue that's going to magically put me back together?"

"I could be."

"Don't get so cocky."

"I mean, I could be if you let me."

"You're cheesy."

"Maybe you're just too serious."

"So, what if I am?"

"I'll love you anyway."

"Don't say that. Love is too big a word."

"It's only four letters."

"Stop it. You know what I mean."

"I wouldn't say it if it weren't true."

"So. You love me?"

"Didn't I just say that?"

"Sean wouldn't be too pleased to hear that."

"Neither would Hazel."

"Does that bother you?"

"Nah, I could take Sean any day."

"I mean, about Hazel."

"Hazel and I were a thing. A short thing. We're nothing now."

"But nothing is still a thing."

"Nothing is a nothing. Don't question it."

"I should, but I won't."

"Good."

"Good."

"So, do you regret what happened?"

"No."

"Why is that?"

"Because I was too drunk to remember any of it."

"Harsh."

"Now next time we can have a fresh start."

"So there will be a next time?"

"Maybe. If you're lucky."

"Ellie Nash, such a tease."

"Shut up."

"I love you, Ellie."

"I could get used to hearing that. I love you, too."

"Feeling numb?"

"Not at all."

END.
