--Prologue--
Chaos floated in the midst of a blood-red sky, its roars of anger and pain ear-splitting in the void as it gnashed its teeth, cursing its folly and its defeat. Surrounding the beast were Five beings, each with forms derived from nightmares and dreams, hopes and fears, twisted together into an awe-inspiring yet disgusting combination in each of them. They had come at Chaos' call, the only beings in all existence who would, and even now the beast hated them all for what they were.
"What will you sacrifice?" The blind one asked as he held up his hand, a glowing green glyph in his skeletal hand. "What do you have that is worthy of our intervention?"
The dragon-like entity writhed even as pieces of itself started to slide away into nothingness, growling like a thousand boulders falling from the mountaintops. "If it means everything will vanish, if it means that those accursed warriors will fall and their dreams shatter, then I will give anything I have left! As long as they pay for defying me, I care nothing for the price, or my life, or anything else! I want them to SUFFER!!"
"Do you truly mean that? If you do, then you must name it yourself," spoke the one with round yet blank eyes, his smile stretching across his broad face.
"Something given must have value to the one offering it, else it is a meaningless gesture," the fat one spoke, his lips puckered like a duck's bill.
"Only that which one held dear is of any worth to us, but the rewards will be more than you dreamed," spoke the woman, her beauty making her even more repugnant to the dragon's eyes.
"Be warned though, as a wish this heavy will require a heavy cost," spoke the final one, scarlet wings hanging from his shoulders like a blood-soaked cape.
Chaos seethed as the five figures stood waiting, and it closed its coal-black eyes for long moments before opening them again, determination and resignation both mirrored in them before the all-consuming hatred took it again. "I sacrifice my freedom from Destiny's grasp..." Stillness and silence answered his offer, until the glyph pulsed, glowing brightly before breaking into a thousand pieces.
"...The bargain is struck."
