Chapter One
Kylee opened her eyes to a familiar face staring back at her. It was her uncle, Uncle Connor. Her eyes grew wide and surprise and she let out a small cry.
"Good morning, Kylee," he said, with a teasing grin on his face.
"Uncle Connor! What are you doing here? I have to get ready for school!" Kylee jumped out of bed and looked at the clock to find that she was 45 minutes late already. She ran out of her bedroom, leaving Uncle Connor on the floor, laughing himself silly.
"Kylee, you're not going to school today," he said with tears of laughter in his eyes. Kylee had never been this involved in school to worry about being late, so it was amusing to him.
"And why not?" She asked from the bathroom, running the water to wash her face and brush her teeth.
"Because you are coming with me. We're going on an adventure, Kylee." He smiled and stood up. He headed towards the bathroom and dragged her back to her room. He sat her down and told her something that would change her life forever.
"You, Kylee, are the next Traveler of Second Earth." Connor's face was serious, showing that it wasn't just another one of his annoying pranks.
"What? Uncle, I don't have time for your stories. I was 5 when you told me those stories. I'm 15 now, and I know there is no such thing." Kylee stared at him with a confused look on her face.
"Get dressed and meet me outside, okay? Take your time. Remember, you don't have to go to school today." And with those parting words, he left her, sitting in silence.
A traveler? She thought, thinking back to all the stories that Uncle Connor had told her when she was little. About the other worlds called "territories" and the people with strange powers and destinies called "Travelers". Most of all she remembered the evil villain in his stories, the one he called Saint Dane. What did he mean when he said that she was the next Traveler of Second Earth? If he was telling those stories, does that mean that he is the current Traveler of Second Earth? Was this just another story that he was going to tell her? No, it couldn't be, because his face was serious, not happy and soft, like when he told her stories. She shook her head and got dressed quickly, wondering what all of this meant.
He was waiting outside, just as he said he would, on his new Suzuki Bandit 1250S. She always loved to go on rides with her uncle on his motorcycle, because he always drove way too fast and it made her heart beat faster and gave her a sense of exhilaration. He handed her a helmet like he always did, and started up the engine.
"Where are we going, Uncle?" She asked as she donned the dark purple helmet.
"You'll see, Kylee. It'll all be kind of confusing to you, but since I've been telling you the stories for so long, you should understand the basics." He revved the engine and they sped off down the street, heading towards the sunrise.
The basics? What does he mean this time? She thought as they roared down the street at 50 mph. She hugged him tight and watched the houses fly by.
