Happy Endings
AN: Drabble. Six glimpses from the relationship shared between Ryan and Kelsi. "Because they are not in love with each other. But they are each other's happy ending."
:::...:::
Kelsi smiled, wrapping her hand around Ryan's. She kissed his cheek, and he smiled back at her.
"You're such a princess, Kel. Whoever gets you is gonna be a fortunate man." He whispered, caressing her cheek. She leaned into his hand and giggled.
"And you, Ryan Evans, are one fabulous man." They looked at each other, sharing an intimate glance "And I'm quite sure any guy who gets you, is gonna be a lucky dog."
They both laughed at Kelsi's words' election.
"Then,"Ryan started, letting go of her and tilting his hat. "I think it's time to get in there and dance everybody off!"
And that they did.
:::...::
Kelsi's voice flows through the stage, and when Ryan emerges from a trap door and sprawls himself over the piano, their eyes meet.
And they speak without words.
"I'm afraid, Ryan."
"The show'll be fine. You'll be fine."
"I'm afraid of what's next."
"I promise I'll be there with you. We'll be just fine"
Their voices mingle, their words turn intimate and softspoken, and they ignore everyone else.
There's no room in their worlds for anyone else right now.
:::...:::
"You like him, don't you?"
"..."
" ... You do know he's as straight as they come, don't you?"
"..."
"Please tell me you ain't in love."
"..."
"My God. I, you... I mean, he... Oh, Ryan, I'm sorry."
"Kel?"
" ...Yes?"
"Hug me?"
:::...:::
Ryan squeezes Kelsi's hand when she stares too much. She blushes a little, and Ryan offers her a soft smile.
After a while, Kelsi stares again, but her eyes are now empty and glassy.
She is with him. And he smiles at her. And she knows they love each other.
Ryan whispers something, and Kelsi smiles.
"We are hopeless, aren't we?"
:::...:::
Julliard is what they both dreamt of. That and a whole lot more.
There, Kelsi finds out how to become the best at composing. She practices day and night, and her fingers get cramps out of playing that much.
Ryan has the best legs in the history of ever, says one of the girls there. His dancing and choreographying skills improve so much that by the end of the first semester, he already has six job offers from different places.
When they come back to Albuquerque, for a holiday, they get praises from everyone.
They are obviously happy to hear their friends' praises, but what really makes them be full of joy is knowing the both of them are together in all of this, because, they wouldn't have lasted.
When Ryan is tired, and his legs are aching, and he's frustrated and wants to quit because it is too much, Kelsi's there to rub his back and smile for him.
When Kelsi's fingers hurt too much to keep playing, when her songs don't end up being as good as she wanted them to be, Ryan's there, helping her out, and playing soft tunes for her.
Julliard is what they both freamt of. And, gladly, they have each other to stop the dream from becoming a nightmare.
:::...:::
When they are out from Julliard, they announce to everyone that they're going to get married.
Most of their friends don't get it.
Sharpay surely doesn't, because they are not in love with each other.
But the answer's quite simple, they are each other's happy ending.
