The Ups and Downs of Catsitting
Hardison stood in the doorway watching Eliot. It was a rare enough sight to see Eliot so completely relaxed and a surprise that this was what had done it.
Eliot had objected, whined and moaned like a kid that he didn't want to look after Sophie's cat. Hardison thought he had some really good reasons but it was hard to say no to someone like Sophie. They all knew her cat, it was a vicious beast, over-indulged by its owner and not inclined to be even passingly pleasant to anyone else.
That image had only been reinforced over the first couple of days it spent staying at Eliot's, but now the cat was curled up on Eliot's lap, head resting over his heart, purring contentedly as Eliot softly ran his fingers between its ears. Even better than the fact that the cat was quiet and not howling miserably as it had been when Hardison had gone out earlier, was Eliot being settled resting and half asleep in front of the TV, exactly where he should be to finish recovering from the injuries he'd picked up on their recently finished job.
It seemed the cat had managed something that he, the rest of the team and the doctors never managed to get Eliot to do : rest and let his body heal. For a moment, Hardison felt a surge of affection for the animal only to look back at it and see it had opened its eyes and was now watching him with a distinctly evil look to its expression. Maybe he'd just keep his distance until the cat decided to get up.
