Disclaimer: Sadly, the Gilmore girls belong to the genius of Amy Sherman-Palladino and not to me.

A/N: just another post-season 5 fic. Hope you like it.

"What?" Luke stood still, all thoughts of how to help Rory pushed forcefully out of his mind. Lorelei took a deep breath.

"I said….Will you marry me?"

Luke stepped forward to where she was sitting and kissed her hard on the mouth. It was a passionate kiss that might have led to something else if they weren't in a open diner in a nosy town.

"Yes," he said softly, once he had broken the kiss, "I just need to get it back from Taylor."

"What?" It was Lorelei's turn to look confused, "Don't get me wrong, the kiss and the yes part was great and all, but since when does Taylor have any bearing on our love life?"

"Uh….nothing," Luke took sudden intense interest in the table he was cleaning, "Long story. So….do we go ring shopping or, Hey! Do we tell people or….?" Still not convinced with Luke's hurried answer, Lorelei nevertheless was in a magnificent mood by now. She was inside a bubble of happiness and hope, until her thoughts drifted to Rory. The bubble popped.

"Luke—" she began, bittersweet feelings creeping up all around her. He placed his strong, stable hands on her shoulders and looked into her uncertain blue eyes.

"Everything will be fine. As long as we stay together, nothing too horrible can happen," Luke genuinely smiled.

Lorelei melted. She couldn't help it. It wasn't often you could get Luke to say something optimistic; even rarer to get him to say something mushy and loving. But, despite the hope burning in his eyes, she still couldn't shake the cold feeling in her heart.

"Yeah, everything will be fine."

A/N: so there it is-please review. no flames, please. Constructive critisim is ok, though.
