"Earth to Roxas." Kairi said, waving her hand in front of his face up and down. "Hey, wake up, fog boy."
They were in the cafeteria. Roxas was sitting on a bench; arms perched on the table, lunch untouched. He was off to otherworld again, eyes vacant. To him, Kairi's voice was nothing but a dull drone in the background. Roxas tended to space out whenever he could. It was frustrating to Kairi at times, but she still loved the expression on his face. Serene, tranquil, or whatever you want to call it.
Kairi leaned over the table and got really close to his face until they were only an inch apart. As she stared into those deeply mesmerizing azure eyes of his, her own eyes became crossed from the effort. "What are you thinking?" She asked loudly and pronouncing every syllable, as if his current state would disable him to hear correctly.
He didn't reply. She retreated to her own seat again, slightly annoyed. Whatever, leave fog boy to dream whatever perverted thought he was having.
Lunch went on painfully slow, and still he didn't react to any sound or motion. Finally, the bell rang and Kairi left with her brows creased to class.
Kairi leaped out of the main hallway and into the schoolyard, relieved of the obnoxious mass of student body stampeding behind. She turned the corner around the school building and stopped.
Roxas was there. He was leaning against the wall with his arms supporting the back of his skull. His eyes were fixed on the cloudless sky.
Surprisingly, Kairi found herself speechless. His expression was thoughtful and serious. The light bangs on his forehead flowed freely in the breeze. If Kairi had a camera with her now, she would've taken a shot of that picture.
She stepped slowly up to him—and quietly, afraid that he would go poof and disappear in an instant. She stood there for five whole minutes, neither side responded.
After the minutes were over, Kairi suddenly had the urge to do something. She had to lean up to the height of his face, and almost lost balance. Kairi slung her arms around Roxas's neck, letting out a sigh of relief.
Still no response. What a surprise, she thought.
Without a warning, she inclined forward and placed her lips onto his. She was so surprised by her action; her heart skipped a beat, then twice, and a third time. Her eyes, unsurprisingly, crossed. She let go of his neck and crashed onto the hard asphalt, in a daze.
She walked away quickly, blushing madly. Her cheeks blended into several shades of red. She turned to glance at him quickly—still no reaction—and hastily scampered off, nervous.
After she left, Roxas removed himself from his position and glanced at her back.
Then, he smiled.
