A/N: I decided to write this short little thing after I read about the Alphabet Challenge. This is for the letter 'M', Mostly. It is also my first fic with Sirius and Tonks. I really love the ones where she sees him in Azkaban. So here goes nothing! WHEN YOU'RE DONE PLEASE REVIEW! I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MUCH I APPRECIATE THEM! Also, I'm looking for a Beta for my story "Just a Little Push", a Lily/James fic, so if you could PM me that would be amazing.
DISCLAIMER: I own nothing but the plot :)
Nymphadora Tonks walked as quietly as she could through the murky halls of Azkaban. Never, she thought. Never did I ever think I would ever be in here looking for that traitor of a cousin. Her usually bubblegum hair was now a deep shade of navy. She couldn't fathom how he had sold his best friends to Voldemort. In her enraged state she slipped on a puddle of drool coming from an old man's mouth. Gross, I hope that's what Sirius looks like. She walked up one more staircase before she saw what she had come for.
Sirius Black along with his unruly hair stuck his head out between the prison bars. He was grinning foolishly considering how Tonks was deliberating which hex she would use on him first. Even with his cheerful mood, there were bags under his eyes making him look completely pathetic, and like his soul was buried deep inside, trapped.
"Wotcher, Dora," he whispered using her favorite greeting and her nickname. She softened slightly knowing that he was still capable of human feelings. However, she kept quiet, silently giving him permission to explain himself.
He said that it was fault, that he should have stopped any ill will from befalling them. Illegal Animagi, a werewolf he thought was a spy, and cowardly "friends" all seemed to wriggle themselves into his tale. He had spun a lie so thorough it almost seemed real. Almost. She stood stiffly with her arms folded across her chest. If that's the best he's got I might as well leave, she though gruffly. Before she got more than a foot away from Sirius' cell a shaking hand grabbed her forearm.
When Tonks turned around, she saw a pleading look. "Please," he whispered, though it seemed to take all of his strength. "Believe me, please." He looked utterly broken in that moment. Like his arm would shatter into a thousand pieces from his effort.
"You admitted yourself you murdered them. That's all I need," she said harshly. He shuddered a bit at the word 'murdered'. She turned on her heel and marched back down the corridor. She hesitated, though, when she heard a soft thump. Slowly, Tonks's head turned back to see Sirius sitting on the floor, his head in his hands, and whimpering to himself. She felt a pang at her heartstrings.
"Sirius," she started. "mostly, I believe the ministry." He looked up at her voice, waiting for her to say more. "Mostly," she repeated. "but there's always a little more room in mostly. You've still got a chance in mostly. There's that thin ray of possibility. Always remember that, won't you?"
"Mostly. I'll never forget it," Sirius managed through his choked breaths. "Dora."
"I'll be back again, when I'm ready," Tonks whispered. "I miss you,…Siri." She smiled and left, not to see him again for almost 14 years.
With that, Sirius took what she gave him without hesitation. He was given a chance again by what he was sure to never have again, a true family. Some days he mostly gave up on his life and determination of getting out of that prison. But he would always remember hearing his darling cousin say, 'You've still got a chance in mostly. There's that thin ray of possibility.'
A/N: Well there you have it. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this piece. Let me know what you thought and REVIEW.
