The Yearly 365 Challenge
Prompt #51 (Scenario) Look, I'm sorry that I hit you, but it was an honest mistake! It's not my fault you chose to wander around this monster infested dungeon without so much a torch!
...
"You didn't have to hit me so hard." Betty glared into Veronica's eyes.
"How many times do I have say I'm sorry for hitting you B?" Veronica sighed as she rubbed the bridge of her nose. "What the hell were you doing in this pitch dark dungeon without a freaking torch? Oh and need I remind you that there monsters infested in this dungeon? She glared right back into the sea of blue green eyes that she loved so much. But right at this moment she was terribly annoyed with.
Betty sighed. "I had a torch. Just Reggie decided that he needed it more than I did."
Veronica's eyes shifted over to the tall brown haired boy slightly behind Betty. "WHAT!"
Reggie held up his hands. "Hey we all know that monsters don't kill virgins. Betty was totally safe." He backed away a little from the angry brunette.
"Actually virgins are killed first." Kevin frowned darkly over at Reggie. "No offense Betty.
Betty felt the heat in her cheeks as her eyes drew downward.
SMACK!
"Hey!" Reggie yelped.
"You are lucky that I just smacked you Reggie Mantle." Veronica pressed herself tightly against Reggie's chest. Her right hand against his neck. Her fingers tightened.
"Let him go Ronnie." Betty's voice spoke up.
"No." Veronica snared. "He doesn't get to treat you like that B."
"Look I am sorry okay." Reggie tried to pry her hand away from his neck; but, her hand was like the steel of jaws. "Betts and I go way back. We grew up together. She knows that I kid around with her like I would my own cousins."
"No excess Mantle." Veronica growled low in her throat.
Reggie's face turned red.
Kevin sighed as he leaned backwards folding his arms.
Betty walked over and placed a firm but gentle hand on top of Veronica's against Reggie's neck. "Enough Veronica ... he really didn't mean any harm."
Veronica glared into Reggie's teary eyes. "He could have gotten you killed."
"It's a game Ronnie." Betty gently said with a sigh. "It's just a game." She managed to pull Veronica away from the taller teenage boy. Her left arm wrapped her the shorter brunette's waist; and her right arm across her front. Setting her chin on Veronica's stiff shoulder. "Thank you for being my knight in shining armor." She kissed the back of her girlfriend's ear.
Veronica kept a hard stare on Reggie. "Never again Mantle."
"Never again." Reggie promised. He sat back down in his chair.
Kevin sighed as he looked down at the list that he had created for the D&D night. He sighed at least it wasn't as bad as it could have been if Archie, Jughead and Cheryl had decided to join. Perhaps they may end this adventure before morning. If Reggie just kept his pranks to the down low.
Veronica twisted in her girlfriend's arms. Her right hand rose to trace Betty's cheekbone down to her jaw line. "You know that I will always protect you B. No matter what?" She husked.
Betty leaned forward and rested her head against her girlfriends. "Yeah." She husked.
Reggie leaned sideways. "That's why I did it. Just to see protective Veronica." He softy said into Kevin's ear.
Kevin sighed. He turned to look at the jock. "Someday Reggie you are going to far. Veronica will end you."
Reggie nodded. "Yeah I get that." He rubbed his neck. "I promise you man that my pranks on Betty from now will be from our childhood. No harm intended." He looked back at the couple. He felt warmth inside that Betty finally met the person whom would protect her. Without having to be told.
