"Well, that's over with." Discord said, snapping his fingers and fixing the last window that the vines had broken. Him, the mane six, and the other ponies had pitched in to help clean up after the plunder vine incident. "I guess I ought to be going now."
Fluttershy pricked her ears and looked up at him. "You're leaving?" she asked, feeling a little dissapointed.
Discord snapped his fingers again, and a hat and briefcase appeared on him. "Your pony friends clearly don't like it when I hang around, so I think it best that I get out of their manes for a while."
"Oh, well, um, Before you go, I wanted to say that... I'm sorry for the way I acted." she said quietly, looking down. "I shouldn't have doubted you."
She poked at the ground with her hoof, feeling sheepish. "You told me you'd use your powers for good, and I feel like I let you down by not believing you all the way. It-it wasn't your fault. The vines. I mean, it was your fault, b-but it wasn't, um...it was a long time ago...and..."
Discord smiled at her. He was surprised, but at the same time he wasn't. How someone could be so completely kind and forgiving was beyond him, but it's what he loved about her.
"That's enough, Flutters, don't start getting all mushy," he said nonchalantly. "But, while we're on the subject...you didn't 'let me down'. You were the one who convinced them not to go all 'rainbow-friendship-power-cannon-magic-whatever' on me before they got the facts, yes? I owe you for that, by the way." he paused, and then admitted,
"And the plunder vines were my fault, though there wasn't anything I could to stop them after they were triggered. I didn't think that they would be after all those years, really, so I didn't bother to make any effort to try and safeguard them from sprouting."
"I apologize for how my friends acted about that, too," Fluttershy said. "It wasn't very nice of them to keep trying to turn you to stone like that. I know that they must seem a little brash to you, but they really are the sweetest bunch of friends in the world once you get to know them."
Discord nodded, but wasn't sure if he believed that they were, quote, 'the sweetest bunch of friends in the world'.
"Well, you know my motto. Let bygones be bygones." he said, then, after pausing, added, "I really should be going, Fluttershy."
Fluttershy held up her hoof. "I, um...sort of...missed you...while you were away...I mean, you're my friend too, you know..." she admitted quietly. "Do you think that maybe, we could sort of, I don't know, keep in touch from now on? Like being penpals?"
Discord blinked. "You want to be penpals with me?"
Fluttershy smiled, brightening up. "Of course I do! And, maybe I could come visit you sometimes. If...if you don't mind, that is."
"I-I wouldn't mind at all! In fact, I would love-" he started excitedly.
Then his face reddened, and he tried to tone down his exictement, forcing himself to sound nonchalant, "Er, I mean; it would be alright if you dropped by my place every now and then. The pen pal thing sounds fine, too. Sounds like an interesting experience...more or less."
"Oh, that's wonderful!" she cried, feeling relieved that he'd agreed. "I'll write to you first, okay?"
"Okay. I'll be waiting..." Discord said, and quickly poofed away before he embarrassed himself by letting his excitement slip again.
She was too much. She always had been, even from the first time he had met her. Deep down, he counted himself lucky to have her as a friend. Though of course he wouldn't say something like that out loud.
He wondered, not being sure what to think of himself for being so attatched to a silly little pony, but...no one had ever missed him before...
