Sometimes, when he knows she can't see he'll watch her for a moment. Anyone around would see only malice in his gaze and perhaps that's all it is, malice. Everyone knows he hates them, all three of them. Perfect Potter, Weasel, and the Mudblood, especially the Mudblood, because of what she is. No one would ever see the flicker of admiration in his eyes when she lectures Weasley in Potions or when she strides into class early when it's obvious she's been awake all night studying. That amazing drive for perfection that he understands all too well, after all he has to live up to his father which is no easy task despite the money he is given to make it possible. She hates him as much as he hates her. That much is obvious in the way she looks at him. She's not like Weasley or Potter. It's far too easy to entice a reaction out of Weasley, it's almost not worth it. With Potter it's practically a duty of his to show him the truth. That he really is nothing but a news story and he'll get what he has coming to him soon enough, but it seems she knows exactly how to make him slink off grumbling under his breath. A cold glare, Weasley could be trying to rip his throat out, but it would be that glare, that complete lack of response that would drive him away. She impresses him as well. He would never admit it of course, being impressed by a Mudblood, but that self-confident air is extremely attractive to him. Her independent pompousness is her most obvious characteristic and her strongest one. Oh, yes she may be loyal and she may care for her friends like family, but that's not what makes her strong. Weasley is loyal and cares for his friends like family too, but he has nothing else that's what forces him to live in their shadows because he has no light of his own to shine out. She does. She doesn't need Potter like the Weasley does. She's far more intelligent than he could ever be, more proud. She's not modest, not like Potter. Modesty is weakness, modesty means one denounces their own strengths and thereby makes these strengths useless. She's not modest she may even be more arrogant than he is, her entire disposition reeks of self-confidence. Yes, he admires her. He admires her and hates her. For Malfoys do not love, they simply posses, so for the exact same reasons he admires her he hates her because it is those very things that make her impossible to posses. She's too strong to ever be controlled by force and to proud to ever let someone do so willing. Potter or Weasley they could be possessed. Potter is simply too easily corrupted, too easily fooled and Weasley's emotions could be easily twisted and used against him. She however, she is too clever to be fooled and too controlled and collected to ever let herself be toyed with. Some have said that her one fault is that she doesn't know her limits. How stupid, the truly powerful have no limits and she is forcing hers just like anyone truly strong would to break through any barriers that may ever hold her back. Of course, that power will never really get the chance to mature because when it's all over every Mudblood will have to be killed to cleanse the wizard population of all Muggle grime. It almost depresses him to think of all that untapped strength being wasted, but that's the way it has to be. Almost, but his hatred for her is far stronger than his remorse.
She is glaring at him now. She noticed him watching. His lips twist into a sneer and glares back. She lifts her chin and turns away from him and continues to argue with Weasley over something. Yes, she is strong. Oh yes, how the mighty will fall.
