Burden
A blueblack sky greeted the cold red and blue Autobot commander as he stepped outside for a moment. A chill breeze whipped past his sensors, gently wafting the small, spring leaves on the trees in front of the Ark's resting place. Thousands of stars glinted overhead like tiny pinpricks of light in a black blanket. Somewhere overhead, was Cybertron, Optimus reminisced silently. Cybertron, his home and the final prize in this cursed war against the Decepticons.
If it had been difficult fighting the Decepticons on Cybertron, it was pointedly more so on Earth. Earth's terrain itself sometimes fought against the Autobots, such as the time he was stuck in quicksand. There were so many unknown variables that existed on Earth that were certainties on Cybertron. Still though, he pointed out to himself, Earth did have its good side. His new allies and companions were more than eager to help, even if they were sometimes detrimental to the mission.
Gazing at the natural beauty of Earth's landscape, Optimus came to a conclusion. Megatron was the spearhead of the Decepticon cause. If he were somehow removed then several of the other upper ranking Decepticons would vie for power. During the ensuing chaos, perhaps the Autobots would find the chance they needed to destroy the threat of the Decepticons.
A mechanized sigh filled the air. Optimus looked behind him for its source, but realized he was the only one outside of the old ship.
Megatron was his responsibility alone, he decided. He knew that other than Skyfire, he was the only one capable of surviving a one-on-one fight with the sneaky Decepticon leader. It was his responsibility, the matrix within him whispered, just as it had been the responsibility of others before him. The remnants of the sparks within the matrix whispered of possibilities for Megatron's downfall. Optimus tried to tune himself into each individual voice and memory inside him, but paying attention the multiple consciousnesses inside him was draining and nearly impossible. A small part of him longed for the days when he was just an unworthy soldier; the days before the burden of command had been placed on his shoulders.
However, it was his responsibility his own spark whispered to him. Megatron needed to be disposed of, and it was his job to do it. Optimus would not place any more of his loyal soldiers in harms way. He himself would face Optimus, one-on-one, just as the codes of old demanded it. If need be, he would sacrifice himself to ensure that his following had the best chance of stopping the evil plans the Decepticons had in store.
He would face Megatron, he resolved and the matrix quieted within him. He would face Megatron, and he would do it soon.
Author's Note: Well, there's my take on some of Optimus's thoughts before the 86 movie. Hope you liked it. Review and let me know what you think, good or bad.
