Some siblings grow up to be strangers and believe they know everything about each other, but Thor and Loki truly knew each other better than anyone else. Thor could see past Loki's facades, and Loki always seemed to know what Thor was thinking. It was this that hurt them so much when they grew older.
Every time Thor looked at Loki with disappointment and betrayal, Loki could feel it. It wounded him, and naturally, he put on a cold face.
But for every time Loki pretended he didn't care, Thor saw past it and to the regret, the pain, the confusion. It made him wonder why his brother, who he had been so close with as a child, would do this to him and those around him.
What had happened to Loki?
This was what Thor couldn't read in Loki's expression. The trickster wondered about it, too. How had he ever become this way? Was it jealously, was it spite? How had he ever become so damaged, so wrong? Thor was his brother- no, no, but yes, they had been raised brothers, had they not?- and these people he hurt were innocents...And he didn't know, he didn't know what had become of him.
And then the thought it must be in his blood, Laufeyson, and continued in his ways.
There was something Loki couldn't read in Thor, as well. Persistance, hope. Thor would never give up on Loki. He was his brother, even if they weren't related by blood, and he KNEW that inside this stranger was the little boy he had grown up with, played with.
Thor and Loki had always been brothers, and Thor only wished Loki would recover from this mad state of mind and realize who he was and would always be.
