An little thing I wrote on tumblr! I don't think I'll ever really do a sequel or expand on it but who knows!
It Wasn't Fair
It wasn't fair, Matthew thought to himself. He had been the one to meet Gilbert. He had been the one who worked so hard to get the other's barriers down and become friends with him. He was the one who was in love with him first.
Then his brother came home from his boarding school and at first the two hated each other and Matthew was fine with that, though he wished they would get along just a little more. Then suddenly, somehow when he wasn't looking, the two of them were friends. Soon Gilbert would be at the house playing games with Alfred, or the Alfred would tag along when the two of them made plans to go to the movies.
They were always together, even if Matthew wasn't there. He convinced himself they were just friends but that illusion was quickly broken when he had walked in on the two of them making out. They hadn't even noticed him, too busy sticking their tongues in each others throat. He had ran to his room, locked the door, and cried into his stuffed polar bear (the same one Gilbert had won him at the carnival they had gone to months ago).
When the two finally came clean to him, weeks later, he pretend to be happy for them while really he felt miserable and betrayed. Of course he had never told his brother about his huge crush on the albino and his brother couldn't read the atmosphere to save his life. Gilbert of course, had no idea since he just thought that the flustered and embarrassment was just part of Matthew's personality.
Seeing them so happy made him cry on the inside, but he continued to smile and wave off attempts of them getting him to join them when they go on dates. (They had wanted to set him up with someone, but he refused.) If he did hang out with them, they just got all couply that it was sick to the stomach and made Matthew that he'd never have that with Gilbert.
Sighing, Matthew wiped the tears away. It just wasn't fair.
