Not sure where I'm getting all these ideas suddenly. But, anyway, enjoy!
Sometimes, when Tobias felt more lonely than normal, he would climb out his window and onto his roof. He would stay up there all night if he could, except if his Aunt or Uncle - whoever he was with at the time - realized he wasn't in his bed in the morning, he would get in trouble. So he would only stay out there for just couple hours. Any more than that and he would risk falling asleep and, chances were, he wouldn't wake up in time to get into bed before he was woken up.
After sleeping in the beds he's been sleeping in, he could fall asleep on a bunch of nails and still sleep just fine. Tobias couldn't decide if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
This night, when Tobias climbed up to his roof, it was different. This night was different than all the other nights he went up there.
It was his birthday and Tobias just turned ten. To him, that was special. To everyone else, it was just a regular day. Nobody ever remembered his birthday, but Tobias didn't mind.
He looked up at the stars like he did every other time he went up there. So badly he wished that he would see something that would rock his world and change it forever. Anything was better than being this lonely.
Aliens. That would be cool. Maybe they would come down here and take him away. To live on their home planet. Or maybe they would just visit him, tell him the secrets of the universe. Then, at least, he would have something new to think about.
After all, thinking about the same thing over and over tended to get a little boring. He couldn't keep wishing for the same things over and over. Meet aliens, get away from his guardians (if you could really call them at), maybe make some friends and, more than anything, fly.
So badly Tobias wanted to fly.
Even if it was for an hour or two, it was be the greatest moment of his life. He just knew it. It would be so nice to just get away from all the bad things in his life. To get away from everything. To see everyone from so high up, but being too far away to be affected by it. That's what Tobias wanted.
Tobias knew that if he was given a chance to fly, to be in the clouds, he just might try to stay there forever.
