Max and 99 went into the Chief's office. They exchanged hellos.

"There's something new I want to show you two."

He led them into the hallway. In the wall was a metal plate.

"As you know, we've just installed a new fire extinguisher system. It's designed to automatically detect fires. However, it it ever doesn't work, there's this backup."

He pressed the plate. A slot in the wall opened, revealing a button.

"You simply press this button, and the extinguishers will go off."

He pressed the plate again, and the slot closed up.

"Let me get this straight," said Max. "You press this plate-"

He pressed it, reopening the slot.

"-And then, push this button-"

"MAX!," 99 and the Chief said together.

Too late; he pushed it!

A loud warning sound began. Also, water rained down upon them from the ceiling. So heavy was it that they were soaked in just a few seconds!

"Er, sorry about that, Chief! How do you turn it off?"

"Come with me."

He led them down the corridor. Soaked personal could be seen scurrying around.

He opened a door. Inside was plumbing pipes and another button. The Chief pushed this button. The water stopped, and so did the warning sound.

"Now, since you accidentally flooded our offices, I think you should stay and clean up, Max!"

"That's a good idea, Chief!"

The Chief went back to his office. Max went to a closet to get a mop. 99 followed him.

"99, you don't have to help me."

"It's OK, Max. I'm already wet, anyway!"

She stopped, slipped her shoes off, picked them up, and looked at them.

"These sandals are ruined!," she said, sadly.

"Sorry about that, 99! I'll buy you a new pair. It's the least I can do."

"Thank you, Max!"

She threw the shoes in a nearby waste basket. Barefooted, she helped him mop up the water.
