Chapter 1
"Where are Ryan and Seth? They said to meet them here around 3:00; it's almost 4:00!" Summer said impatiently glancing at her watch. "Well if they don't show up we can just go to the mall, are you in?" Marissa asked Summer. "I guess, but it's just not like Seth to blow things off like this," Summer crossed her arms and looked towards the ground. "Well, I guess it is like him because he blew this off. Are you okay?" Marissa asked. "Yeah, I guess. Let's go to the mall now." "Okay, are you sure you're…" Marissa got cut off from the ringing of her cell phone. "Hang on a second." Summer nodded and sat down at the nearest park bench. "Hello? Hey! What's going on? Oh no, I'm not busy at all!" That was the last Summer heard of Marissa as she walked home alone.
Meanwhile
"I am so sorry for the punch. I have no idea where that came from. I guess I'm just a little upset from Summer standing me up on Friday," Zack said rubbing his knuckle. "No problem, I understand," Seth said. "Where did Ryan go?" Zack asked trying to change the subject. "I have no idea, since well I've been out for the past half-hour," Seth said looking around to hopefully find Ryan nearby. "Well, like I said, Summer has been acting very weird lately and well, I'm worried that something is going on," Zack said expecting Seth to comfort him. "I don't think anything is on going, I mean I don't think going anything on." "I'm going to go look for Ryan. Are you going to be okay Seth? You look a little pale," Zack asked. "Oh, fine I'm. I mean…" All of a sudden Seth fell to the ground. Zack didn't happen to notice though because he was already on his way to find Ryan.
While Marissa talked and laughed on the phone, she didn't notice Summer drifting away towards home. Finally after she got off the phone, she realized that Summer was gone. She didn't need any clues though, she knew that Summer had probably gotten bored of waiting and left for the mall herself. Marissa decided to head for the mall herself with or without Summer. But, unfortunately, the mall was closed and Marissa ended up going home.
Once Summer got home she went straight for her computer. She had never really used the computer before but she had heard so much from people at school that you can meet cool people online. Summer went straight for the chat rooms and started out by talking to a guy from California, same age as her and who also seemed nice. After talking to "this guy" she found out that he is still in school, likes hanging out with friends a lot, doesn't live with his family and lives with a nice couple and their son.
