Save The Jellyfish
By Marauder Angel
For the girl who cried 'jellyfish'
Harry wasn't quite sure if he could believe his eyes when he stepped out of the castle. There, under his favourite tree, were Luna and Hermione in pleasant conversation. He made his way over to them for closer inspection.
'So you see…' Luna said, in mystic tones. 'They desperately need our help! Nobody pays attention to the little creatures, it seems.'
'You're completely right.' Hermione added, passionately. 'I've been trying my best to support house elves and their rights with SPEW, but no one seems to care anymore!'
'That's a shame.' Luna sighed, before turning to Harry. 'Would you care to join STJ?'
The loony girl before him held a shiny collecting tin to her chest, parchment and quill by her side, and a dozen or so fuchsia badges clipped onto her shirt.
'What's an STJ?' Harry asked, cringing slightly. 'Isn't that some sort of a disease?'
'Of course not!' Hermione exclaimed, hands on her hips. 'You're thinking of STI's, Sexually Transmitted-'
'Ok, ok…' Harry said. 'So what is STI-J? What does it stand for?'
'Save the jellyfish, of course!' Luna cheered.
'Save the jellyfish?'
'Save the jellyfish.'
Harry turned to Hermione for an explanation.
'I think it's nice that Luna's taken an interest in something a little more…valid.' She said, carefully pinning a button onto her robes.
'You mean, something a little closer to home?' He grinned.
'Yes, that too.' Hermione added. 'You'll wear one, wont you?'
Hermione massaged the tiny jellyfish attached to her right shoulder, and it stung her.
'OUCH!'
'I think I'll pass.' Harry said, taking a few loose sickles from his pocket and dropping them into the jar. 'I'm sure the jellyfish are just fine…'
'But they're not Harry!' Luna trilled. 'The jellyfish are drowning!'
'In the sea?'
'Where else?!' She asked, accidentally dropping her tin onto the floor.
'Let me help you pick that up…'
Harry and Luna both scrambled to their knees, to pick up the loose change.
'It's nice that you take the time to care, Luna...' Harry struggled. 'But you really don't have to.'
'But if I don't, then who will?' Luna asked sadly, suddenly lifting her large looming eyes to meet Harry's. Harry paused for a moment, stunned by Luna's usual knack for speaking the truth in the most innocent and sweetest way.
'You're right.' He said, after some time, and they both stood up. Hermione was grinning in a knowing sort of way. Harry took a badge and kissed Luna on the cheek. 'I'll support anything you like Luna.'
'Will you really?' She asked.
'It's the least I can do.' Harry continued. 'You remind of what the important things really are.'
'You mean jellyfish?' Hermione said, with a grin.
'Yeah.'
Luna took Harry's hands in hers and hopped on the balls of her feet.
'Oh Harry! Then you wont mind donating to some other charities!' She squeaked. 'Maybe Tent to the turtles? Or how about Sponsor a snail?…'
