He could remember being a child and running down the streets of town with a grin plastered on his freckly face. He could remember running right to her door, pulling her from her home, and forcing her to play with him too. Play with all of them! Play with tag with Groose, play hide and seek with Zelda and Link… Cawlin and Strich and Fledge too, running around and acting like idiots.
The memories flashed in front of him now, on his day off. The four of them, sitting around a table laughing. It was his day off. They were all sharing drinks. Groose was arguing something fierce with Karane, which really wasn't surprising since the two of them were always bickering. Zelda was giggling over something, draping her arms over Link, who was chatting with Pipit about something unimportant. Cawlin was making goo goo eyes at Karane—regardless of the fact that she was dating Pipit now. Fledge was holding up the end of a sofa, and Strich was admiring a bug that had crawled under it.
And all he could think of was the fact that they had grown up…
But they were all the exact same amount of childish they had always been.
"What are we doing here?" He suddenly asked, and Link gave him a blink and a stutter.
"Getting a little tipsy?" He offered as an answer, indicating to the fact they had a common trait among them. They all had a drink in their hands.
Save for Pipit.
"Not freckle-face!" Groose stated the fact, and Karane turned around and looked at Pipit too.
"Why don't you drink?" She asked, glancing down at the glass in his hand which was full of nothing but water.
"…I don't handle alcohol well." He smiled, and glanced at Link—who just grinned and kept his mouth shut. Link was the only one who had ever seen him drunk, after all… and if Link remembered correctly, the brunette threw up, slurred his sentences, fell into Link's arms twice, and fainted.
"But it's your day off!" Zelda protested. "We're your friends! We wouldn't let you get too drunk, silly."
Groose snorted. "One or two shots won't kill ya. Carpa whata, or whatever, right?"
"Carpa what?" Karane glanced back at him like he was an idiot, but Pipit clarified for you.
"Carpe Diem." He explained. "Carpe Diem…. And maybe you're right. But I'm not going to drink more than one."
And so began the second time Pipit had ever been drunk. Only this time, everyone was there to see it.
