Middle Earth Haiku

By Glorfindel's Girl

Author's Note:  At last, after much personal debate, here it is.  My ongoing Lord of the Rings/Silmarillion haiku project.  If you're not familiar with the events and/or characters in either of the books, then you're probably not going the full meaning of the poems.  Since I usually write a couple of these a day, expect frequent updates.  Feel free to drop suggestions for future haiku subjects in your reviews.  Please not that some of these are old and admittedly not all that great – but I'm going to post them anyway.  Helpful critique is greatly appreciated. For those of you who don't know, a haiku is a traditional form of (non-rhyming) Japanese poetry, which consists of three lines totaling 17 syllables.  They are usually written in 5-7-5 format. Most of these are written in the traditional arrangement, however, a few are written in the non-standard 5-5-7.

Creature of Sunlight

Tormented by the Shadow

What have you become?

2

Offspring of Melkor

Does a glimmer still remain

Of what you once were?

3

Fearless and joyful

Golden hair gleaming

The ancient warrior reborn

4

Haven abandoned

Imladris stands in silence

The halls gather dust

5

Behold the jewel's light

The Oath returns to haunt you

After all these years

6

The ones left behind

How can any comprehend

The pain you have known?

7

Hope of her People

She traces another's footsteps

And shares in her doom

8

You despise her kin

Yet dare to love me

Behold your ill-gotten son
