Rin waits for the silence to put her in dreamland but she does nothing but close her eyes and think. How lovely, she says to herself. She's supposed to be resting so that she won't be going to school groggy and haggard; that would be a total disgrace to her school idol image.
The door closes and opens but Rin does not dare open her eyes.
She feels a hand on her shoulder and hears someone whisper her name. She still doesn't open her eyes.
"I know you're still awake."
Rin opens her eyes and sees the figure standing in front of her. She sighs and sits up and frees his arm from her shoulders.
"What were you doing?" she asks sharply.
"Uhhh. Nothing. I was just standing and breathing next to you and uhh…..oh no, don't get the wrong idea! It wasn't like that, I was just-"
"Emiya Shirou, listen. Newsflash: one question gets only one answer."
"Err. Right, Tohsaka. I'll remember."
"Nevermid, Shirou. Forget about it."
"Tohsaka-san, you looked really peaceful earlier." He randomly mentions it. He doesn't know why but he just says it.
"If so, then why did you disturb my slumber?" she asks rather playfully although the edge to her voice does not leave.
"But you weren't sleeping, Tohsaka. You were just closing your eyes."
"Hmph. That's still disrespectful, Shirou."
"Tohsaka-san, May I ask you a question?" he earnestly asks.
"What kind of question is it?"
"Err. Tohsaka, you're not supposed to reply to a question with another question."
Rin slightly turns red and grabs a nearby pillow and hits him slightly on the shoulder.
"Are you correcting me? Hmph. Anyway, go on. I'll answer your question." She says with arms folded in front of her chest.
"What do you usually dream of?"
Rin slightly drops her arms and places it beside her. Her expression has faltered into a soft yet sad one.
"I usually dream of…well, memories and strange scenarios." She honestly says so.
"Like winning the Holy Grail War?" he asks
"Well, yeah sometimes but happy dreams rarely occur." Her voice suddenly turns into a whisper.
"Were you dreaming about losing some kind of competition or failing an exam?"
"Something far worst."
"There's something far worst than that?"
"Trust me. Loads and loads more."
"Like?"
"Losing my family."
"And?"
A playful smile appears on her lips "Losing you."
"That was unexpected, Tohsaka but I'm thankful you umm well, think of me as an important person." Shirou's face turns into a shade of pink and begins averting his glance elsewhere, avoiding eye contact with Rin.
"Of course, let's go to sleep now shall we? We still need to go to school tomorrow and we need to do some planning." Rin stretches her arms and yawns. In a few seconds, she's already lying down on her side, facing the wall.
"But you know, even if your family has already left you, I don't think they're completely gone. A part of them still exists in you and in your memories and Tohsaka, even if at times we seem to be at odds with one another, I want you to remember this; I'm sure as hell that I won't be leaving you either."
"Stop being so cheesy, Shirou. You'll regret saying those words soon."
"I definitely won't. Anyway, it's getting late now. Good night, Tohsaka-san."
But before she could respond, Emiya Shirou has already left the vicinity leaving her alone once more.
