Don't Leave Me
Prologue
When I was seventeen years old, my life changed forever. It was when I finally grew up, no longer a little boy, but a man. It was when I discovered a little thing called love and how wonderful it could really be. Sadly, it was also when I learned about death, and how tragic it could be.
Growing up, well, let me just put it bluntly. I was a jackass. I was incredibly arrogant, conceited and an overall jerk. My friends and I were among the most popular people in school, so it kind of got to our heads. Everything I wanted, I got. No one ever said no to me, the one and only James Potter.
Then there was her. Lily Evans. She was always the quiet girl, the daddy's little girl kind who never did anything wrong. She was very shy, so naturally, we never hung out together outside of classes. Lily Evans was the kind of person that made you feel guilty just by looking at her. She was absolutely perfect in every way. Of course, I didn't truly see this until I was seventeen and a little too late.
I think the reason I didn't date Lily Evans earlier was because she was so different from all the other girls I went out with. First of all, she didn't throw herself at me like the rest of the female population at Hogwarts. Second, she never wore massive amounts of makeup or very revealing clothes, which is probably why I never gave her the time of day.
I'm not proud of the person I was at seventeen. Now, 5 years later after Lily's death, I can say that I am proud of the person I have become. There was something special about Lily. Something about her that wanted me to be a better person. All I know is that something about Lily made me change. And even if she's not here to see the new James Potter, I think about her everyday of my life and feel grateful for what she did to me. I don't know where'd I'd be today if it weren't for Lily Evans.
A/N: here are some pictures of people I found online that looked like what I imagined Lily and James to be. If you'd rather use your imagination, that's fine. But personally, I like to see pictures of the characters because it helps me imagine the story better in my head. Here they are:
