Title: Paper Bag

Rating: K

Disclaimer: While I have purchased many things that required both paper and plastic bags, I actually don't own any. Nor do I own Katy Perry.

Author's Note: The funny thing is that the last paragraph actually happened to me and a friend of mine. Except I was the one with the smart-alec reply. And I totally didn't even know that quote came from a Katy Perry song until a few minutes ago when I looked it up.

Summery: Have you ever felt like a plastic bag?

Have you ever felt like a plastic bag? It's a ridiculous question, right? But have you ever actually thought about it? Compared yourself to a plastic bag? Have you ever walked outside and seen a plastic bag just sitting there –or even floating with the current of the wind and thought, "Ahh. I know that feeling."? The feeling of just going with the flow. The feeling of just being there. The feeling of not being dead, but not really being alive either. The feeling of just, somehow, existing. And do you ever kind of wish you were that plastic bag? A bag that doesn't have to deal with life's responsibilities and consequences. A bag that doesn't get judgmental looks for the way it's dressed or acts. A bag that doesn't feel pain or anger or grief. A bag that can just be. A bag that just floats and goes wherever the wind takes it. A bag carrying on without any problems or unnecessary thoughts.

It's an interesting thought, isn't it? To envy such a ridiculous thing as a plastic bag. To want to be as free as something that doesn't even breathe; something that only has the purpose of transporting things. Something that exists to make carrying your groceries a simpler task. To want to be something so low and beneath you; something practically useless. Maybe that plastic bag that you walked outside and saw isn't so worthless after all.

And have you ever turned to your friend who sees the same bag and asked them, "Do you ever feel like a plastic bag?" Just for that same friend to turn to you and with a deadpan expression reply, "That's paper."
