The sight of flames.
AN: thought this up one night after trying to explain to my little brother what a blind person would see. So this is a funnier version of the real thing.
Basically what's happening is Roy is trying to teach Edward, like school, because Edward in the anime and manga never went to school and I figure that they wouldn't let him into the army without at least the basic knowledge that is taught in schools. Right? Got it? Then read it!
Disclaimer; I do not, nor ever will own FullMetal Alchemist. I do however own a brain, one that tells me that writing disclaimers is pointless to the stage of insanity, because clearly if I did own these characters then I wouldn't be writing fan fiction, I would instead be on some remote tropical island with the real Roy mustang and letting him rub in my sunscreen.
Got that?

"Well what would you see if you were fully blind? What would you see then?" Edward inquired from behind the tiny desk Havoc had somehow conjured and dragged screeching into Mustang's office.
"Gees ed, if your blind you cant see anything." Roy was frustrated, he had sat in his office for over four hours trying to teach Edward the basic terms of biology, somehow in-between Edward throwing things at him as he tried to ignore the obnoxious blond and Roy sending half the furniture of his office up in a ball of flame when Edward asked that one question too many about a completely unrelated topic, Edward had gone from rudimentary biology to asking how the eyes worked, witch he already knew the answer too, to then asking why they worked, then to asking how you became blind, and now this.
"But seeing nothing is still seeing something though, isn't it?" Edward asked. Roy drummed his fingers on his half burnt desk, his mouth tightening to the extent that it looked as if his lips would never be seen again –and the female population screamed (as well as all those disappointed, swooning fan girls he knew where posted outside his bedroom window,)-
Tap-a-tap
Tap-tap-a-da-tap
Tap-tap-tap
Tap-a-ta-da-tap
his fingers drummed out a tuneless beet, his dark eyes turning to slits as he watched Edward fidget and squirm, he sighed and decided to indulge in his subordinate, " Well know one knows, a person who finds themselves blind one day might find he sees black in the blindness. But, hypothetically, if you were born blind then you wouldn't see anything because there's nothing in memory to compare it too."
"But then wouldn't they just see black?"
"No, they don't see anything" Roy sighed again; it was going to be a long afternoon.
Tap-a-tap-tap
Taaap-tap-tap-tap
Tap-tap-ta-a-tap.
"But nothing is black."
"Who says?" Roy's finger drummed harder as his other hand rubbed at his forehead and the headache within.
"So nothing is white?" piqued curiosity was in Edward's voice, and Roy couldn't care less.
"Is everything black and white to you ed? Is everything so cut and dry? You have to look closer, see all the shades of grey between." Mustangs voice was starting to strain and his fingers moved more frantically, his head leaning heavily on his palm.
"So nothing is grey?"
"Oh my lord."
"Oh you mean like colors? So nothing could be red?"
"Why do I bother…"
"Purple?"
"No"
"Blue?"
"Nope"
"Pink?"
Roy's elbow slipped and his chin was brought down hard on his chard desk, it was the last straw. "Just shut up a second, let me explain in the dumb-ass terms that might reach your brain easier; no, if you cant see any thing and you have never seen anything then that sense didn't really exist, so you are actually seeing nothing witch you wouldn't know your seeing. So if they was in fact seeing black or white they wouldn't be able to tell the difference, so they would be seeing nothing." Roy stood up, fingering his gloves with one hand as the other began to increase the tapping tempo.
"Oh,"
"You understand now?"
" Nope."
