He watched the snowflakes descend from the skies, gently peppering his hair and clothes with the white flaky substance. Church bells chimed in the distance, stirring in him memories of a past long forgotten.
"Harry, I think it's Christmas." Hermione's soft voice cut across his thoughts and he nodded mutely. How was he to celebrate an occasion whose significance he'd barely begun to grasp, while on a search for his parents' graves?
He passed by rows and rows of graves all coated with fine layers of snowflakes before he reached a set of twin tombstones. His breath hitched in his throat and his palm shook before he dusted the fine snow off their graves.
It took him a moment to read the inscription below his parents' names. James and Lily Potter.
A tumult of emotions threatened to capsize his mind right then, and his eyes shone with unshed tears.
"Hermione," he said, and it was all it took for her to understand.
She clasped his frozen hand in her equally cold one and, with her wand, conjured up a wreath of lilies. With soft tears rolling off her cheeks, she placed it between their graves.
"Merry Christmas, Harry," she whispered, resting her cheek upon his shoulder.
His grip on her hand tightened.
"Merry Christmas, mum and dad," he whispered softly. He shrugged his shoulder gently and turned to face his best friend.
"And a Merry Christmas to you, Hermione."
But this time, his voice was strong.
