Swinging the door of the common room wide open, James Potter stumbled in, already shagged from the entire day as practice and he quickly tried to dash to his dorm for some sleep. That was until, of course, he had small sobs coming from the corner of the fireplace. He knew he shouldn't pry, or even step forward, but for some reason he couldn't help himself. Gingerly, he treaded forward, trying his best to get a glimpse of who was silently sobbing at the fireplace.

It therefore, should not come as a surprise to James, when he saw a mass of soft red curls shaking silently as the girl cried her heart out. With her schoolbag thrown hastily beside her and still in her robes,Lily Evans was sobbing silently near the fireplace.

Good grief, James thought to himself. Whatever was Evans doing so late all by herself sobbing so hard?

His instincts told him to go forward to comfort her, to put a hand on her back to reassure her, to tell her whatever happens he would be there with her. His heart nearly broke upon seeing her small frame shaking so badly, tears wrecking her apart. With a crumpled piece of paper in her hand, Lily was buried deep in a cradle her hands formed, as though trying in vain to hold herself together.

James sighed exasperatedly, knowing he could not do anything to ease the pain she was in. He quickly dashed past the common room and carefully made his way up the girl's dorm without the gender detection alarm even going off. He spotted the bed on the far left and tried his best to make his way there as quickly as possible.

"Marls! Wake up please, Lily needs you." James tried his best to whisper to Marlene, Lily's best friend while shaking her violently, praying she would wake up this instant. Marlene only mumbled some unintelligent response, before turning over and going back to sleep.

James silently berated himself, before proceeding to shake Marls even harder, until she woke up on the third shake.

"Marls! Get up, Lily's in the common room crying and you have to console her!"

"What? Lily what? Oh no this can't be good. It must be that sickening sister of hers"

"Wait a second, what are ..." Before James could finish his sentence, Marls had already put on a sweater and without even so much of an explanation, she dashed down the staircase to console her best mate. James mused his hair before quickly returning to his dorm, least someone discovered him in the girl's dorm.

That night, as he prepared to head to bed, his thoughts were only solely consumed with Lily, whether she was okay, and if she was better now. Never before had he seen the poor girl so wrecked, lost and helpless. Behind the strong, confident facade that she usually put on, James realised that she too probably felt lost at times and helpless.

"Goodnight Lily,I hope you're feeling better." James whispered out loud, to no one in particular, before tossing over and falling into a deep slumber.

"Look at the stars, look how they shine for you, and all the things that you do."
