The Reason

The beast knew he was dying. The leader of the mob, whose name was Gaston, made it his personal agenda to kill him. And it seemed at that moment, that he would reach his goal.

But it was not the face of the intruder that the beast saw. It was her face he saw, she seemed to have been heaven sent, saving him from a life of loneliness and despair.

But she wasn't here to save him; he had agreed to let her go home to help her father. He didn't want to her to go, but he knew he had to.

I'm not a perfect person
There's many things I wish I didn't do

He knew he was far from perfect, his worst faults were his impatience and his temper. They both came out full force the night she found the rose. He soon realized his folly the moment he heard the main door slam and ran after her. Little did either of them realize that the wolves were hungry that night and looking for their next meal.

But I continue learning
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know

I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is you

The beast had only been in Belle's company for a short time, and yet, even in that short time, he had changed. He was less temperamental, less impatient and more open. She had been even attempting to teach him a read, a feat that had seemed gargantuan before she arrived.

I'm sorry that I hurt you
It's something I must live with everyday
And all the pain I put you through
I wish that I could take it all away
And be the one who catches all your tears
That's why I need you to hear

I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is You

He had never imagined that he would be wearing a fine suit and dancing with her the way they had that danced that night. He had often heard of grand balls that had once littered his family's social calendar, but that had ended before he was born.

The way she guided his hands and the way she trusted him, leaning his chest, it made him feel whole again. He was the happiest he had been in a very long time and it was because of her.

I'm not a perfect person
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know

He was floating in and out of consciousness, thinking he heard voice, then a clash of swords. The last thing he remembered before the darkness taking over him was hearing the sound of Gaston's heavy leather boots disappearing and her face floating over his.

"Belle?" he asked weakly, reaching for her.

I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is you

I've found a reason to show
A side of me you didn't know
A reason for all that I do
And the reason is you

"I'm here" that was the last thing he heard and somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew he was going to be fine.

The end
