THE DAY THEY ALMOST CAUGHT SEVERUS SNAPE

As the first rays of golden sun

Glittered across the Black Lake,

Dawn shone upon Severus Snape,

The world's asleep, but he's wide-awake.

He spoke not a word,

But walked straight to the Grounds,

And from the Forest he heard

A racket of mysterious sounds.

He froze in distrust,

Filled with vicious ambition,

And demanded the creature

Make his apparition.

His wand was alit,

He stalked to the clearing

From whence the voices were coming,

Loud and fearing.

He fell into step,

And ran bold and strong,

To where those strange voices

Were singing their song.

He stumbled in shock,

Caught by surprise,

By the familiar sight

That greeted his eyes.

There, dressed in black,

Expressions of hate.

Stood six Ministry employees

No, wait…there were eight.

Snape slashed his wand,

And cast a protective spell

Between himself and the Minister,

Who gave an outraged yell.

The eight of them stood,

Ready and demanding,

When Cornelius himself

Began reprimanding.

He pulled out a scroll

The paper - so white!

And read out a decree

Voice echoing in the night.

He banished Snape,

And any supporting Fans,

To the fathomless quarters

Of where they had "Snape Die" plans.

But Snape, so brave,

Knew what was right.

He refused to be banished,

And put up a fight.

Wands spurred jets

Of multi-colored lights

Whizzing past faces,

Swirling in delight.

Though Snape was down

Nine to one,

He conquered the Minister,

And thought it almost fun!

Snape turned away,

From the treacherous faces,

And walked back to the Castle,

To one of his favorite places.

He slinked to the Astronomy tower

And looked up at the sky,

And wondered what the Ministry wanted,

He also wondered why.

He didn't know how,

And he didn't know when,

But Snape became a great wizard,

Right there and then.

Because he didn't cower,

He didn't hide,

And he faced all those wizards

Defended himself with pride.

When he was outnumbered,

When he was caught,

He cared about his people,

And on he fought.

And now, after all,

They'll certainly remember this day

As the one they almost

Caught Severus Snape.
