For Tonight
Post: Resident Evil 6 – Leon x Helena
Description: A quiet moment after the chaos…
A wooden door opened into the darkness as a pair of leather soled shoes and a suitcase stopped on the landing. Leon was tired. Another mission took a bite out of his soul and left the rest of him to try and move on. He was getting good at staying detached, or so he told himself. But then he came home, and he remembered the truth. His hair was wet from the sanitized water in the decontamination showers. Another pair of clothes hit the bio bin, never to be seen again. It was a good thing his salary was amazing. He needed it with the sheer amount of his wardrobe that landed in hazardous waste.
He took off his shoes, loosened his tie and undid the top button on his collar. As he draped his navy, faux leather jacket across a chair, Leon rounded the corner to his bedroom and his blue eyes fell on the brunet fast asleep in his bed. He knew he shouldn't… He shouldn't have let things get like this with Helena. He was too old for her. He was never there for her. On any given day, either one of them could just die on assignment never to be seen again; the other wouldn't know what to do about picking up the pieces if that happened. Leon worried endlessly about her. He was hardly even in the right mind when she was off on assignment, and he knew she was in danger somewhere. It still wasn't enough to make him stop.
They should've been terrible for each other, but they just weren't. Some days he felt that she was the only thing right in his life. Sometimes he wondered how things ended up like this, but a smile chased itself across his lips and he blushed. He was getting way too old for this crap, but she made him feel young again… Young enough to start his life back from before all this started. And yet, if he had been young again, he probably wouldn't have been able to appreciate the woman that Helena was.
He sat carefully on the bed and brushed hair from her face. Then quietly and gently, he planted a tender kiss on her cheek. He leaned away and Helena stirred. Groggily, her face turned towards him and she let out a sleepy sigh.
"You're back," she grinned.
"Yeah," he smiled. "I'll tell you about it over breakfast later."
"Mmhm," she mumbled sleepily, closing her eyes again.
"Scoot over," he said gently, and she rolled a few inches to give him some room. Then as if it was normal for him to come home in the middle of the night, she held up the covers for him. Leon took off his tie and slid under the sheets, not bothering to change clothes. Wrapping his arms around her, he pulled her close. His mouth nuzzled her shoulder affectionately and he grinned softly.
"I love you," he whispered in her ear. His heart ached with the truth of his words.
Helena shifted to look back at him, and for a moment she stared at his peaceful face. Feeling her cheeks get hot, she turned away from him and snuggled against his chest.
"I love you too… Leon."
Neither one could predict what would happen tomorrow, but tonight, they were both safe in each other's arms.
Thanks for reading. Tell me what you think if you like. This is probably going to be a one shot, but who knows, there's a slight chance I might add on to it a bit later.
