Ziva loved Israel but she did not feel like she belonged there anymore. After living in the United States for seven years, she felt estranged to her birth country. All she knew there was Mossad and the Army, all she'd ever been involved in. Her father had been training her since she was young to become a mossad officer, she then completed her military service in Tsahal as a one of the first members of the Caracal Battalion. Then as soon as she was in age, she'd join mossad, from which she transitioned to NCIS after her brother's death. She had no family in Israel anymore, only Orli, who was not really family, but rather someone who she felt a bond to because of the relation she had with her late father. Her friends all seemed to have jobs who reminded her of who she had been. Adam barely talked to her anymore, she did not know why, and neither did Deena, not that she wanted to see her.
Staying in Israel had been so difficult, she had to fight with herself not to run and board the plane with Tony. But at that time, it seemed for the best, she was not ready to go back. She felt bad not contacting anyone, especially Abby, but she did not have the strenght to do so. She was now questioning that choice of staying in Israel.
She had gone back to school, enrolled at Tel Aviv university and started medical school. She choose medical school because she wanted to save lives instead of ending them. But after a semester, she knew that it was not for her. At first, she'd wanted to change completely but in the end, what she wanted was something she knew. She had second guessed herself and she had realised that there were other jobs in her field that did not involve her killing people. It would have been quite easy for her to find a job in the intelligence field if she had not been a US citizen.
But staying in Israel and parting ways with Tony that was not the hardest.
