This was the first time that she was able to peek at him while he slept. Most of the time when she woke up he was already looking at her. He looked so peaceful she couldn't help but get lost gazing at him, especially how the sunlight peeking through the window softly touched his skin. It had been awhile since he had told her, and some part of her still couldn't believe that Nick Miller had wanted her ever since she walked through the door. For her, it had been much later. She didn't even know exactly when everything had started for her. Maybe it was around the time she met Sam, or when Nick had gotten back together with Caroline. Maybe it even went all the way back to his cancer scare. Perhaps she had always had unresolved feelings for him, but never wanted to think about it for fear of ruining their friendship.
Before she was able to sort through her thoughts, Nick opened his eyes and caught her looking at him. Still half asleep, his arm pulled her closer to his chest.
"You're awake, huh." He bubbled.
She just nodded with a smile and he closed his eyes again, wanting to sleep a little longer. It was still too early, but he couldn't seem to fall back to sleep.
"Jess, whatcha looking at?" His voice came out a little huskier than usual.
"I'm looking at you Miller. You're a beautiful white man."
"Well, what about this, Day." Leaning toward her, he gave her a passionate kiss as she let out a small giggle.
Pulling back and smiling, she sat up slowly as Nick sat up next to her.
"Nick, when you said you fell for me the moment I moved in, what made you decide to make your move?" She gave him a flirtatious smile and winked. "If ya know what I mean."
"Well Jess, I don't really know, it was just…. and then..ya' know…" He cleared his throat. "I mean, the only thing I know is that day I just couldn't get you out of my mind. I tried so hard not to think about it, but you were already there. You brought so much light to this apartment and my life, and I couldn't believe that I'd ever be lucky enough to have someone like you. It seemed like you always were with someone better than me. But then something changed. I felt closer to you and then after we kissed that night, I thought maybe it could be different, ya' know? And you know the rest of the story after that..."
Jess sat quietly as she listened to his confession, taking his words to heart. She finally spoke.
"You know what I truly don't know? What did you write on that parking ticket?"
"All right Jess, I'll tell you...if you tell me what you wrote on yours."
"Deal! But I asked first."
Lost in her deep blue eyes, he thought back to that night. Looking down, a bit ashamed, he tried to calm his nerves. You already told her that you love her dumb ass, just tell her. Taking a deep breath, his eyes still avoided hers.
"I wrote I want... everything."
Jess' eyes widened and her face flushed. Knowing that he was still waiting for her response, she glanced at him playfully.
"Nicholas Miller, I wrote I want something amazing. And you know what? I already had it. I just didn't realize at that moment."
Nick put his fingers softly against her lips. "Enough of that for today. Just kiss me already."
