Dean waded slowly into the piercing water of the lake. It stung his wounds that were raw from the night before. Then he peeled off his gray t-shirt, now standing knee-deep wearing only his amulet and the handprint left by his angel. Dean stretched his muscles, preparing himself for his dive into the abyss.
As he cracked his neck he looked behind him, staring into the forest he had just spent hours walking in. This time when he looked at it though the green was almost too bright, reflecting the peace he felt in his soul; feeling completely one with the universe. The rays made the hunter squint and bring his freckled hand up to shield his eyes.
His heart started to race and his stomach churn suddenly, the peace he felt before was replaced by butterflies on speed. As the light dimmed, he carefully lowered his hands.
Then the dim light turned into a sparkle and that sparkle started to whirl, growing bigger and bigger; spiraling to form a being. It looked like it was pulling all the particles of the universe in to create this celestial being. Dean stared in wonder; he could not tear his gaze away.
There was another great flash of light that propelled Dean back down under the water.
Fully submerged in the light blue crystalline deep, a pounding began to sound in Dean's ear, quickening every second. Dean panicked as the water drew him farther down, and he reached one arm up but he could not break the surface.
Suddenly a figure shimmered into view, and a hand descended. It broke through the glistening veil and gripped onto Deans falling hand. Majestically the figure lifted Dean up with no apparent trouble.
As his face met the air he gazed up at his savior. Castiel stared back at him; their hands still intertwined and led him out of the water to a large rock at the edge of the forest.
Dean started to shiver from the abrupt transition of warm water to cold breezy air and Castiel opened is trench coat to wrap it around the hunter. Castiel hugged him tight, breathing hot air on his neck and whispered in his ear.
"I will always save you."
Dean shot up in bed, his room was a frosty tundra and he cursed himself for falling asleep naked. Except now he wasn't naked, carefully examining the beige garment upon him, he realized who it belonged to. His hero, his angel, his Castiel. He squeezed the trench coat closer around him, nuzzling into the collar as he started to drift off again.
Castiel emerged from the corner of the room, where he made himself invisible to his hunter, and came to stand at Deans' bedside. He placed a hand on his hair, stroking it gently. Then Castiel knelt down and kissed the top of his ear.
The urge to stay and watch him sleep was unbelievable but Castiel willed himself to leave, knowing that a part of him would be watching tonight and with one more quick glance the angel left leaving his coat wrapped tightly around Dean toned body.
He wished he could hold him that close and feel their body merge into each other, but for now he would have to settle for another dream.
