This little snippet was the result of a challenge on the SG Atlantis Sheppard/Teyla Fever yahoo group. We were to write for five minutes anything that came to mind starting with the phrase "Oh crap, he's dead".

The Bet
"Oh, crap, he's dead." Rodney McKay paced furiously back and forth wondering what in the hell he was going to do now.
"Well I don't really see that it's that big of a deal...." Sheppard's voice tapered off as he got a look at the look in McKay's eyes. It was a little scary to say the least.
"You just don't get it do you? Of course not, you military types never do. Well let me explain it in small words so that you understand. No, wraith, no code, no code, no getting off this planet through the Stargate, ergo we are stranded Major! Do you get that?
"Dr. McKay, I don't think he was going to give us the codes no matter what we did." Teyla interjected in an effort to cool a rapidly heating situation.
"McKay." The Major said, trying in vain to show Dr. McKay what he was holding in his hand.
"Why is it I always find myself in these situations with you? What did I ever do to deserve this?" McKay was now pacing evern more furiously back and forth in front of the darkened powerless Stargate.
"McKay." John tried again, but he couldn't get Rodney's attention.
By this time Teyla had noticed the device John was holding and she tried as well to interrupt the doctor's tirade, but to no avail, he just kept talking. The two exchanged a knowing look as John activated the device he'd been holding.
The power to the Stargate flickered once and then came back on line with a low hum. The dialing sequence began immediately.
"They break something I fix it, they don't understand something, I interpret it! They want pepperoni pizza; I'm the freaking delivery boy! No codes! We're screwed, we're just screwed!"
"Rodney!" John yelled.
McKay finally stopped bitching and pacing long enough to take in the change in their situation.
"If you're finished now, Teyla and I would like to go home."
"But, I don't...how did you get it to work?" McKay shouted, clearly confused.
"I had the codes the whole time, I just wanted to see how long it would take you to ask me." John turned to go laughing. "Told you he'd never ask, so pay up." he whispered intimately to Teyla standing right next to him.
Teyla raised a delicate brow as she looked at John, then turned to go. As Rodney stood staring at the now active gate he could have sworn Teyla said,
"Just as long as Dr. McKay leaves this time, after he brings us the pizza."
