The Fox and Squirrel
Once upon a time there was a fox named Linaer who lived in the woods far away from any other creatures. His only companion was the tree not too far away from his den, and Linaer had been alone for as long as he could remember. Supposedly his aunt or someone had left him there as a cub, that isn't what's important right now. We should be worrying about what happened one day as he was walking around in the forest paths he knew so well. There was a scream, and Linaer raised his head, a little surprised. He occasionally heard cries like these, but they were always faint and far away. This was much closer, and Linaer was uneasy, because he had never met anyone like him, not rooted to one spot, in many years. It was possible that he was a talking Fox, but as he had no one to talk to, he did not know. The scream repeated itself, quite a bit closer, and Linaer scooted back into a thorn bush and sat, for he could not figure out what was going on.
"Perhaps I should go see what that noise was. Maybe I'll meet someone new." Thought Linaer, standing up. He looked around, before walking in the general direction of the noise, stopping to sniff a flower. A few minutes brisk walk brought him to as clearing, where he saw a squirrel trying to reach an acorn. Of course, Linaer did not know it was a squirrel. He thought it was some sort of mouse with a strange tail, for he had seen those, but only from afar. No companion who could would talk to him, so he was lonely and observant in his shadowy region of the woods.
