Prologue

Christian

I jump out of the shower and grab the towel on the rack nearby. As I walk to my room, patting myself dry, I almost trip over one of my sneakers that I threw at the desk earlier. It hasn't been a damn good day at all.

Ana's been an emotional wreck, and I know why. That goddamn boyfriend of hers is messing with her emotions like always. He treats her as if she's a damn dog. Going to give her a treat, but suddenly taking it away. The man's no damn good for her and I wish she would just fucking see that. Open her eyes for once in her life.

I throw my clothes on and head into the living room. Mac meows as soon as I throw myself on the sofa right beside him. He heaves himself up and crawls on top of me, then falling back asleep. I run my fingers through his fur, lying my head back to think.

Mac jumps off my lap at the sound of the doorbell ringing. I frown. Who the hell would be coming to my house at midnight? I stand and walk over to the door. As soon as I open it I see Ana.

"Must have been a pretty bad one." I run my thumb over her cheek to get rid of one of her tears. She looks down.

"He- I love him." she doesn't sound certain, but her words send a pain to my chest.

"Sure you do baby." I open the door wider for her. "Come on, you know that you can take whatever you want out on me that you can't on him."

She walks through the door and wraps her hands around my waist, burying her face against my chest. I press my face in the locks of her hair and breath her in. She smells like watermelon and Ana.

"What's wrong with me Christian?" she asks. I feel her body start to shake with sobs.

"Nothing." I pick her up in my arms and shut the front door. "You're absolutely perfect."

I walk us to my room, quieting her with my lips. Her arms tighten around my neck, body pressing closer to mine.

Whenever it's just me and Ana, nothing else matters. I'll keep taking her pain away even if it takes a piece of my soul every time she walks out my door.
