''Hush now you, we don't want to wake your mummy now, do we? Eh?" Peter soothed his daughter, holding her close against him, as his wife slept peacefully in the room next door. He rocked her gently to and fro, cradling her softly in his arms. Peter had doted on his little girl from the very moment she was born. Showering her with love and affection, knowing she would be the most loved baby in all of Coronation Street and far beyond.
He sat down in the rocking chair next to Freya's cot and gently rubbed his little finger along her cheek as she calmed considerably in her father's arms. ''Hey your mum and me waited a long time for you, you know'' He whispered fondly watching as she fought to keep her eyes open and meet his gaze.
There's so many dreams that we have given up
Take a look at all we've got
And with this kind of love
What we've got here is enough
''Little baby Freya, we thought you'd never come'' He smiled into the night as he remembered finding out he was going to be a father again, after believing he may never be able to be.
''You, are the most luckiest girl in the world Freya, and do you know why? He spoke to his daughter as she toyed with his hands, exploring them with curiosity. ''Because your mum, is the most wonderful woman, in the whole wide world. And she loves you, so, so much Freya. And so do I.'' Peter leant down and left a tender kiss against Freya's forehead.
''There was a time, when I thought your mum n me would never have made it here little one. But we did, oh we did. And look at us eh. Who'd of thought it?''
''Freya, you're going to have such a happy life. Nothing will ever hurt you little princess because mummy and me would never let 'em darlin'''
''I think you're gonna look just like her when ya older'' Peter smiled, imagining his daughter a little older, totting around imitating her mother. ''Your mum I mean. You've already got her eyes. They're beautiful you know. They light up when she laughs, she thinks I don't notice, but I do. I always do. Oh she's the best your mum. Beautiful 'n far more intelligent than me.. Don't tell her I said that mind.''
''She's gonna make the best mum to you little one, the best''
So hold onto me tight
Hold onto me tonight
We are stronger here together
Than we could ever be alone
So hold onto me
Don't you ever let me go
He moved Freya so that she lay with her head against his shoulder and took a deep breath, taking in the familiar smell of his daughter. He held her tightly to him, not wanting to waste a minute of the time they had together. The life he had with his wife, son and daughter was one he only ever dreamed of and he had not touched a drink in over seven years. He knew who he had to thank for that.
When he opened his eyes a moment later, returning to here and now, his wife stood leaning against the door frame, a sleepy smile adorning her face.
''Sorry love, we didn't mean to wake ya''
''You're going soft in ya old age Peter Barlow'' Peter laughed as his wife dangled the baby monitor in front of him, realising she had heard everything he had said.
''You know, tomorrow, it's five years. Can you believe it Peter? Five years since we walked down that aisle. I never thought we'd make it''
He smiled back at her, of course he remembered, he thanks God everyday for giving him the love of his life. ''Oh but Carla, I'm so glad we did''
Maybe all the plans we made would not work out
But I have no doubt even though it's hard to see
I've got faith in us and I believe in you and me
**As if he would be talking about anyone other than Carla.. Reviews are loved so very much**
