Pre 'Cabin Fever', but after they're on the freighter with their own crappy room.
My first Sayid/Desmond, so be kind. I hope its IC... never wrote these two before.
I own nothing. All belongs to Mistah Abrams and ABC. Nor do I own the Title/quote. But I do love Sherlock Holmes. (I do own a dog, and he does nothing in the nighttime, either).

Dog In The Nighttime
"Can't sleep, brother?" The quite voice carried across the deck and Sayid smiled softly to himself.
"I could ask the same of you," he replied, leaning himself next to the Scotsman.
Desmond let out a small laugh and turned back to the dark ocean. The breeze stirred both mens hair, lazily dusting it across shoulders. Sayid reached out and gently brushed it back, his hand lingering on the tanned shoulder.
They let the silence grow, content to just stand together and watch the dark water. Such peaceful moments were to be cherished.
"It was the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime," Desmond said, finally. Sayid lips turned up again.
"The dog did nothing in the nighttime." He linked his hands together and rested his forearms are the rail.
"Thus the curious incident," Desmond responded, half teasingly. "I've gotten used to the dog barking and the sounds of the camp, I suppose."
"I did not know you liked Sherlock Holmes." Sayid turned his head ever so slightly to see the other man.
Desmond smiled and shifted closer. "Aye. And Dickens as well. I've even been know to read an Agatha Christie every now and again." He wrapped his arm around dark shoulders. "Why aren't you asleep?"
"You weren't there; I woke up," Sayid said, simply, turning back to the water.
Desmond placed a kiss to his temple, hand running lightly up and down his arm.
"Lets go in then," he said into dark hair, and whispered promises of things to come into Sayid's ear.
...Like I said, suggestive themes- although it's totally up to the reader what to read into the suggestions. ...I could be talking about a month old crossword puzzle someone had lying about
