Tell Me a Story

Chapter 1

"Have you brushed your teeth?" Melinda Clancy asked her young daughter. The girl rolled her eyes.

"Mommy, I ALWAYS brush my teeth before bed," an annoyed Lily answered her mother with that 7 year old attitude.

"Hey, I was just checking, like a good mother does," Melinda said chuckling.

"I know." Melinda smiled and kissed the top of her daughter's head. Lily had beautiful icy blue eyes which she had inherited form god knows who, long, dark hair from her mother and her father's charming smile which Melinda could spot from a mile away. "Okay, well it's time for bed so here's Milly and I'll turn your nightlight on for you."

"Okay," Lily answered, taking the stuffed bunny from her mother. Milly had been Lily's security blanket from the age of 1 and although she thought her daughter would have outgrown it by now, she had never given up the habit of having to sleep with the stuffed bunny. Melinda reached over and turned on the nightlight and then made her way to the door.

She was about to close it when Lily stopped her.

"Wait!" she cried.

"Sweetie, what's wrong?"

"I want you to tell me a story," Lily answered quite calmly.

"Okay, okay. You didn't need to yell," she said, walking over and sitting on Lily's bed next to her. "What story? How about Snow White?" Lily shook her head.

"No."

"Okay, what would you like me to read you?"

"I want you to tell me a story about him."

"Who?"

"About...Daddy."
