Fairfarren – An Alice & Tarrant Fan Fiction
The battle was triumphant and the Jabberwocky lay dead on the chest board battlefield. In my hand was the vial of blood from the Jabberwocky that would return me home. Holding it tightly in my hand I realized it was truly time to go.
"Fairfarren Hatter," I whispered, hugging the Mad Hatter tightly before letting him go.
"Wait Alice!!" Tarrant exclaimed grabbing my wrist. Turning back to face him I saw fear in his glowing green eyes. The shade of his eyes suddenly shifted to a deep stormy gray as I took a step back closing in on the space between us.
"Stay, please," he whispered. "Why is a raven like a writing desk?" He asked suddenly pulling me even closer.
"I don't know," I answered trying to maintain space between our bodies. It became impossible as the hatter moved his hands to hold my shoulders in a tight grip making moving away a difficult task. His stormy eyes bore straight into mine.
"Exactly! You must stay so we can figure it out together," he pleaded.
"I can't stay in Underland. There are questions that need to be answered back home," I answered truthfully. The fact that I had left my pre-engagement party before disappearing to through the rabbit hole was weighing heavily on my mind.
"What kind of questions? I have questions too. And you can't leave until you answer them," Tarrant demanded.
"But I don't know why a raven is like a writing desk," I answered truthfully. I wanted to stay in Wonderland truly, but there were things that needed to be settled back in London.
"You need to let me go Tarrant," I begged, my eyes beginning to tear up. I wanted to stay with him, but I knew it was impossible.
His grip on my shoulders slackened. Then he released his hands completely and took his hat off of his mad red hair and held it in his hands. His fingers were nervously running over the brim and his eyes were cast down at the ground.
"Goodbye," I said again. I raised the vial of blood to my lips and closed my eyes, but the hatter grabbed the vial before it touched my lips. Now this was going too far. I opened my eyes and was about to scream at him to let me go when he shoved his top hat into my other hand.
"Take this. Don't forget me," he said solemnly before turning to walk away from me.
"It's impossible!" I cried out. The hatter turned back around to face me, his eyes losing their sparkle.
"It's only impossible if you believe it is," Tarrant said dejectedly before turning around again and walking back towards the White Castle. I gazed down at the hatter's top hat in one hand and the vial of blood in the other. Questions be damned. This is my real home.
I threw the vial at the ground and watched as it smashed into tiny pieces. The sudden noise caused the Hatter to stop in his tracks. Looking back at Alice he saw her racing towards him, his top hot on her head. She jumped into his arms and threw her arms around his neck, holding on as though for her life.
"Let's find out together why the raven is like a writing desk," Alice exclaimed before she caught the hatter's lips in a passionate and consuming kiss that would set all of Wonderland on fire.
