MIDNIGHT CLEAR
By: Vanessa Sgroi
"This is not what I wanted to be doing right now," muttered Dean, leaning more into Sam, taking more weight off his injured leg. "Thought we'd be home right now, lounging in front of the fire..."
"The bunker doesn't have a fireplace, Dean..."
"We coulda figured something out. We would be lounging, lights twinkling merrily on the tree..."
"Tree? We don't have a Christmas tree."
"Stop harshing my mellow, dude," Dean grumbled. "As I was saying, we could be in front of a fire, looking at a lighted tree, drinkin' some of your special eggnog..."
"Are you sure you're okay?" Sam asked worriedly. "You didn't hit your head?"
"Other than a bunged up leg, mangled arm, and bruised rib, I'm fine. Doesn't hurt to do a little daydreaming you know."
White snowflakes suddenly began drifting about in the sky.
Sam looked up admiring the full moon shining brightly. "You know, it is kind of pretty out here."
"Won't be saying that when we're freezing to death."
"We're almost to the car..." Sam pulled them to a stop and fished Dean's flask from inside his coat. Unscrewing the cap, he offered it to Dean. "Here. It's not spiked eggnog but..."
"It'll do."
Another twenty minutes passed before the gleam of Baby's paint came into view.
"Now there's a sight for sore eyes," Dean mumbled. Rousing from his stupor, he hollered, "We're comin' Baby!"
Soon, Sam was settling Dean in the passenger seat.
"Hey, Sam? There's an ax in the trunk. You wanna cut down a tree before we go?"
"Nah. I'd rather just get you home and fixed up."
"Mmmm, spoilsport..."
"Hey, I might be able to do something about that eggnog when we get back..."
