Disclaimer: I don't own Fullmetal Alchemist. If I did, the movie wouldn't have been crap!
Alphonse Elric stood before the small gates of Risembool. He was waiting for the return of his older brother, who had left town because he had been notified by Izumi Curtis, Their alchemy instructor, that she had something to tell him. It had been a month since he left, and Al had recently received a letter stating:
Dear Al,
I'm on my way home from Dublith.
I'll be back by this evening.
Ed
He'd been waiting for two hours now, and he hadn't seen a soul.
Al was considering going home when he saw a figure approaching the gates.
"Edward! You're back!" he yelled happily.
Ed, his suitcase over his shoulder neared the gates and smiled. "Hiya Alphonse, I see they've been feeding you!"
Al looked down at his stomach. He'd only put on a few pounds, not enough to notice from that far away. "That's not very nice Ed!" he yelled back at him
Ed laughed at that one and opened the gate.
The brothers walked together through the small town of Risembool. "Al, how have you been feeling lately?" he asked, sounding concerned.
"What're you worried about? Winry was overreacting. It was just a sore throat." Al replied.
Ed and Al's father had left when Al was born to do "Alchemic Research" as he'd called it. Ed always thought that meant he'd run away to try to find a younger woman than they're mother or something. Later their mother died of a disease called Leukemia, which was the most deadly type of cancer there is. Luckily Ed and Al's best friend's family, the Rockbells took them in. A little While later, Ed thought of a plan, a plan only a mourning child could think of: he and his brother were going to bring her back with alchemy, the greatest taboo: Human Transmutation.
A/n: they never told you what disease Trisha died of in the show so I picked Leukemia.
