Hi! So, this has been an idea I've had for the last few days. In case you didn't realize, this is a songfic based off of Taylor Swift's 'Safe and Sound.' I hope you enjoy it!

Norway angrily made his way down the stairs, dragging a trunk of his things behind him. Denmark refused to leave his room, despite the fact that this was partially his fault. Maybe that's why he refuse to face him. Or maybe he was just drunk. The Norwegian made his way towards the door, to wait for Sweden outside. He stopped in his tracks, however, at the sight of his brother crying. Immediately, he rushed to Iceland's side. "I'll never let you go," the elder of the two whispered. However, it did nothing to calm the young nation, who was still begging him not to "leave him here alone." Not knowing what else to do, he hugged his brother close to him, quietly calming him down.

He said:

"Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound"

And with that, Norway stood up, grabbed his things, and walked out of Iceland's life.

Iceland had been living with Denmark for awhile now. He was in said Dane's office, organizing some papers. He knew his caretaker had been stressed lately due to many recent threats from Germany, so he figured he could give him one less thing to worry about. He hadn't been at it for long, however, when he heard the sound of shouting. Just as he was about to open the curtains, Denmark ran into the office yelling "Don't you dare!" Startled, the boy hardly protested when he found himself being led by the Dane, who was mumbling about "damn Germans," "everything's on fire," and the royal family. Soon enough Iceland found himself being pushed into a broom closet in the basement. This is when he started protesting, asking what was happening and why he couldn't help. Denmark said something about the war being at their door, he wasn't really listening. He only realized what was happening when Denmark started trying to close the door on Iceland, to which he protested even louder. Not knowing what else to do, and determined to keep his ward safe, Denmark hugged the teen close to his chest, mumbling what had become the equivalent to a lullaby to the boy.

He said:

"Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound"

And with that, Denmark lightly pushed Iceland away, closed the closet door, and locked him in.

When Iceland eventually found the key and made his way out of the closet, the first thing he did was run upstairs to that same office window, only to see his guardian being led away by German guards.

He couldn't breath. He couldn't see. All he knew was ash. He didn't even need anyone to tell him, he knew. Eyjafjallajökull had erupted. His lungs were filling themselves with smoke. He was getting lightheaded. Unable to do anything, the nation collapsed to the ground, clutching at his chest as he struggled to breathe. He clutched his eyes shut, mumbling to himself through scattered coughs.

He said:

"I'll close my eyes
The sun is going down
I'll be alright
No one can hurt me now
Come morning light
I know I'll be safe and sound."

And with that, the boy slumped to the floor, unconscious.

Well, that's it! I hope you liked it. And while I did do a bit of research for this story, if you see anything inaccurate, feel free to tell me. I can't promise I'll edit this story to fix things, but I'll be sure to keep anything in mind for the next one. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM me. -Kate
