AN: Completely and utterly Au, and also sort of a rugrats-primeval crossover, except not. So everyone's babies or toddlers and claudia and jenny are twins.
I really have no idea where this plotbunny came from, but it wrote itself. I might continue it, because I have little headcanons about the others I haven't mentioned in this.
Connor curled up in the corner and tried not to cry. He really didn't manage at all. Helen huffed and stomped away, muttering about dumb babies. He sniffled, and rubbed at his eyes. He wasn't a baby, and he wasn't dumb! Well, maybe he was sorta a baby still, but that didn't mean anything.
"You okay, Conn?" He looked up at Abby, who crouched next to him when she saw his face. "Oh, Helen's a big meanie!" She said, hugging her friend; Connor snuggled close, feeling happier just by Abby's presence.
"She doesn't have to pick on me so much, why's she so mean to me, Abbs?" Connor mumbled. Abby hugged him again, and pulled back, holding his small hand in her own and tugging him to his feet.
"Let's go talk to Nick, he can tell her to stop." She told him, smiling gently. Connor nodded reluctantly, toddling along with Abby towards their friend, who was playing with Stephen, Jenny and Claudia. Helen had left the playpen - good riddance, thought Connor, and then felt bad - and Sarah, Danny, Hilary and Jess were playing together a little ways away. Abby had been playing with them before, but she'd seen Connor fall and start crying. She didn't like to see him cry, it wasn't right for Helen to push him around just 'cause he was littler than her.
"Nick! Helen's been mean to Connor again!" Abby said, gripping the other boy's hand firmly so he couldn't back out of telling their friend. The older boy, Nick Cutter, looked up from stacking blocks, and frowned.
"What'd she do this time?"
"She pushed him."
"An' she called me names." Connor whispered in Abby's ear. She repeated his words louder, Claudia and Jenny exchanged looks, and then put their own blocks down, getting to their feet and toddling over to where Danny and the others played with their chosen toys.
Stephen tilted his head, finishing his tower before he moved over to Nick, and crossed his arms.
"What're we gonna do 'bout Helen, Nick?" Stephen asked. Abby was relieved. She thought that he might defend Helen, but she was glad she was wrong.
"Push her back?" Danny piped up. Sarah rolled her eyes. "No, silly! That's not a solution!" Connor hid behind Abby in surprise, as he hadn't heard them come over 'till they spoke. Abby gripped his hand, sighing quietly. Connor was the same age as her, but he was very little and didn't deal well with surprises. He peeked out from behind her sheepishly., scuffing his toes on the carpet.
"I have an idea." Nick said. He and Danny were older, the same age as Helen. "Connor, do you have that screwdriver? Me 'n Danny can climb over the pen, but you guys're too little still." Connor got his tool out of the pocket of his hoodie, holding it up proudly. Nick smiled. "Great! We can open the pen up and all go to find Helen."
That made Connor shrink back slightly, his eyes showing how worried he was.
"It's okay, Conn. We'll all be there." Abby assured him, gaining a smile. The others nodded (a little argument was going on in the other corner between Hilary and Jess, 'cause he thought she was too young and too little to go with them, and she didn't want to be left out.).
