When Abby woke up she knew something was wrong. For starters; Connor wasn't next to her. His side of the bed was cold as well as completely empty. She sat up and scanned the room.
"Connor?" she called.
No answer. Abby glanced at the bedside clock. Its digital display told her that it was 3am. She frowned and tried to remember what woke her up in the first place. A loud thud from downstairs reminded her. Wondering if it had woken Jess Abby crept silently to the staircase. From her vantage point she could see very little and started to go down the steps.
"One word is all it take for me to kill you, but right now I have more important matters to attend to." hissed a strangely familiar voice.
"You don't know what you're dealing with!" Connor gasped.
"I know well enough." The stranger paused. Connor was thrown onto the stairs with a sickening crunch. "You showed me."
Abby raced down to him as she heard the door slam.
"But I didn't know what I was dealing with." he murmured.
"Connor? Are you okay?"
He looked up at her.
"I'm fine."
Abby could tell he was lying - Connor had never been any good at it. All the same she helped him stand. Together they walked up the stairs and head towards the dining table. For Connor it was more of a shuffle than walk. They were nearly there when he collapsed on the spot.
"Connor!"
"C-can we sit here for a while?" he asked.
Abby knelt by his side.
"What's happened to you?"
"April happened."
Abby put her hand on his face.
"She did this to you?" He winced and Abby took that as a yes. She drew her hand away and was alarmed by the blood on it. "Connor – "
"Abby I love you, but please just leave it."
Connor did not look good. His pale face was rimmed with blood from where he hit the stairs and the rest of his body was decorated with bruises.
"Connor this should not be happening!" Abby pointed out. "Work employees should not beat you senseless! We have to tell Lester."
That was when he passed out.
