Prompt: Describe something that doesn't last.....
Life Doesn't Last Forever
The point when you are about to die. It's one of the most overused things written in the books, but they always seem to last for the longest of times. I wish that moment had lasted longer than the few seconds it did. My name Akuna Amaki, I died on November 17, 2021.
Back then the world was in a state of panic, for war was upon us and slowly suffocating us as well.
Though that's why we call it a world war, isn't it?
I was a young, spirited fifteen-year-old back then; blue eyes full of life, black hair darker than night itself. A school uniform that no one cared for, yet wore it everywhere. Maroon and white shirt, jacket, skirt, and shoes; like I said, no one liked it.
That day all of us had been ordered to write a one-hundred word essay about the Iraq War in 2001. It was meant to help us see that was had always occurred but it never help.
It seemed like a normal day after school had ended. I was met by my younger brother Ricate as usual, I wish him well now that he's my age.
"How's my baby brother?" I asked him.
"Akuna you know I'm only six years younger than you! I mean I even go to school!" Ricate shouted. I teased him every day and he always ended it there. Nothing was different today; he ran towards home, the leaves following behind him.
That's when I heard the shots, "Bang! Bang!"
I ran as fast as I could to the noise praying that is wasn't my brother. I was screaming his name, but he wouldn't answer at all. I quickened my pace and came to our neighborhood.
There was blood everywhere. I stood there horrified of the thought that this was my brother's blood, but it couldn't since he was standing looking into one of the houses.
"Ricate what are you looking at?" I asked him not really wanting to know the answer. When I followed his gaze though, I wish I hadn't asked.
There in the doorway was one of the people from the enemy lines holding a gun pointed at my brother.
I only had one thought; save my brother.
As quickly as I could I ran and pushed him towards our house. Unfortunately the gunman didn't want anyone to survive, and I soon felt the stickiness of blood dripping down my mouth. Everything spinning into a blur that shows one's life, but it only lasts for a second; nothing like what they say.
Now I am stuck waiting for my brother to join me, but I don't mind waiting.
Life can't last forever, and I know that now more than ever.
Ok….. Like it says at the top….. I wrote this in forty-five minutes, so it isn't the best… It was written for Power of the Pen practice, but I am unable to practice with everyone else so I do them at home… yeah…. So if you don't like it then ok…. I made the characters up as I went so I don't have to put a disclaimer up… so I don't expect be getting sued…. So yeah… enjoy…. Below is a random quote that is true that I write as my signatures on emails…. I didn't feel like taking it off….
